WB10 Config, window appears and disappears instantly.

The config app starts properly only if I start it in the first 10 seconds of starting my PC. After that, if I try and launch it, a window appears and disappears instantly, not letting me config anything. I went in the wb10 folder, tried WB10config.exe, wb8config.exe and sevenconfig.exe, none of them worked. This has been the case ever since a fresh windows install.

Running Windows 10 Pro Fall Creators Update x64 (build 16299.rs3_release.170928-1534) and on the latest version of Windowblinds 10. I also have the latest version of start10 installed and working. This is too annoying. I've already tried running as admin, reinstalling several times, doesn't work. What should I do?

Nope, didn't work at all. Though the purge batch file did give 2 errors, saying that the module "wbsrv.exe" and "wbcore.exe" were loaded but not registered.

I also purged start10.

I just finished reinstalling WB10 and the exact same issue is still here - if I start the config app within a few seconds of logging in after a boot, it opens, otherwise a window appears, disappears instantly.

This is getting way too weird. I start the wb10config app as soon as I sign into my user because otherwise the issue keeps repeating.

Just a minute ago I was planning to restart, I tried closing the window and re-opening it from the tray icon.

And it worked. The window opened up properly. So I closed it again and when I opened it again the same way, the issue came upfront. Same, instantly closing config window over and over. Sometimes instantly, sometimes I could see it drawing some elements inside the app window and then closing. I kept doubleclicking the tray icon with random intervals (in seconds) and this one time, it again opened the window properly and it's still open.

EDIT: Also tried creating 2 new user accounts, a normal administrator and the built in admin and the same issue is on both of them.

So I really can't say what the heaven could it be related to.  Isn't there any kind of log I can check to see what's causing this?

I wonder if you can load any skin at all?

Skins work PERFECTLY. Everything else is perfect. Even without using the config app, I can just start wbload.exe and it loads up whichever last skin I had configured, even after unloading windowblinds. Everything is well and good, except that the config app has this weird opening issue.

EDIT: For instance - it's been about over a day my PC is continuously running. I close the "WB10Config.exe" window. I keep doubleclicking on tray until out of like 15-20 random appearing and disappearing windows, one of them stays open. I'm slightly familiar with debugging things but this case is too random... Once again - Are there any log files I can use here?

Hello,

I am just wondering if the problem also appear on other simple theme like Ice or Just default win10

It appears on all themes. It appears even if no theme is loaded (when windowblinds is unloaded)

For me personally I would suggest to look into your Graphics driver or corrupted files on OS side. Try the "sfc /scannow" and see if you have any.

I would like you to try the clean boot please:

I can just keep doubleclicking on tray icon like crazy and the window does appear sooner or later, so it's not like I'm totally unable to use WB10 and that's good.

All clean boot says is - disable all startup items and unnecessary services, create new administrator user account and use it (for Windows 10)

StartWB.bat stops explorer and windowblinds service, restarts them both with admin permissions.

I've tried a new user account already and it was the same case there. Also disabled startup items. Tried running both admin and non admin privileges to wb10config.exe, no luck.

I did have issues with my graphics card, where I overclocked it too high and Windows 10 won't even tell me that it's crashing during gaming. Though now the clock speeds are totally stable.

Anyway, I'll soon do a complete clean reboot following exact instructions and will use my old graphics card to see if this issue is still there.

idk if this is necessary, but:

(Currently, the behavior I see is that out of many randomly launched wb10config.exe 's, one or two of them randomly stay, which means that the problem or error, whatever it is, is inconsistent. Sometimes the window disappears without even slightly appearing. Sometimes it appears quite clearly and then disappears within the second. And so far, it does open the config window under 1 minute of continuously trying to launch it)

[On basis of some insane, unreasonable, completely random and crazy debugging experiences I've had with Windows 7 over all these years, this issue could be related to literally ANYTHING on the system, including graphics drivers, nvidia's geforce experience, customized dll files for custom icons in windows, etc. or even hardware issues like the physical GPU.]
