So...I was thinkin' about things (as I do from time...to time hehe) and I remember Jafo mentioning "serial updaters" who tweak minor things to get their skin re-noticed as it were?

Well, I don't think that is such a sinister thing to do but rather tiresome for the admins who must find that a bit blatant at times...

But seriously...so many great skins/art/icons/cursors etc. end up in dust eventually and page 10 or 11 is probably the average most people will spend the time to look at stuff on one subject alone (if that)!

Soooooooooo, my idea was...

Okay, it's just an idea (mind you) but with the 3 Amigos doing such great work I can't help but get excited and think they could pull this off...

What about 'random' link that showcases any skin from any category rated 7 or better?
JoeBlow clicks visits WC and sees Mary's Icon set on the random shuffle...
Wilst Mary clicks on WC and sees Greg's WB skin on the same random shuffle link.

It would be totally random all the time even to each individual surfer...and would give older skins a chance to get seen a bit more too and would be fair since the random thing would be like playing slot machines.

Well, just an idea...but I just see so much beautiful hard work sink deeper and deeper into that 'gonna be unseen soon' range.

Ah well...me and my ideas! hehe

This is a great idea. Not only for older designs to get noticed, but is also good for users with slow connection that dont have the time or dont want to sit for hours to browse thru the entire libraries of designs.

Or you can use the "sort by" feature on the top of the page (by the search thing). Sort by date, rating, downloads, etc... by ascending or descending order. Of course, putting a randomizing option in the "order" setting would be good.

Yeah, it's another cool idea from the Shmoops. However I guess I'm one of a few who will look through all 3189 walls and 2233 WB skins to find just what I want. The problem is I like so many of them I just can't decide. OK, yes I can. Well, maybe not. On the other hand...........

there always got to be 1 with the negative idea's about it

That show case only show good skins, now rating higher dan 7 could work, only you got people who go and rate their own stuff.
It is a nice idea thought, but just stick to the old one, why das evrything got to change?
I liked the way it is, its just like a 'trofee' (spelling?) to get into it...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Litestep.net used a random screenshot thingie. I would never have seen some themes if it weren't for that little feature. It loaded a new theme everytime you returned to the home page.

Yeah, I think I am one of the few that searches through EVERY page to find exactly what I want. Just like a month ago, I found this cursor, https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=25&SkinID=145 which I LOVE! I haven't changed it since. Randomizing would be a great idea. That would be a better idea for some oldies but goodies. Another great idea. But make it 5 and up.

Some of the best WB skins (aside from the WB4 skins) were made around when WinXP first started becoming popular. You need to go about 20-30 pages deep in the WinCusto library to see them. I came around to WC in Jan/03. These skins were made in like June-ish/02. I missed out on some real treasures.

How about a feature that shows a recent popular skin, a random skin from the whole library, and a skin from one of the skin categories that the user has indicated in his account that he is most interested in?

You guys have such interesting and always valid input!

For me...I'm still on a clunker 56k modem so for me...I just don't have the time out of my life to get through all of the deep pages...

And...I dunno why I said "7" or better...(I remember playing "you don't know jack" when it used to be online and now that little diddy they did, 'lucky, lucky sevennnnn' is in my head...hehe)! But seriously, 5 or 6 is much more fair.

/me is almost finished with her third skin and now looking at her very first skin with new eyes she's shocked people were so nice enough to download it at all. Thank goodness for nice people who give newbies a chance!

Actually, I entered this thread because of the enticing subject by Shmoopy. She's hot, a nice person and a great artist and skinner.
So, I was a little disappointed by the actual content of this thread. lol.

Still, I think its a great idea. But, I like the initial 7 rating idea. Just because a person is a newbie doesn't mean that their skin deserves attention. If one really likes skinning they will come back and get a higher rating the next time. If they don't come back they don't like skinning anyway and they don't care so why should others. Also, no one wants pity. And, many great skins were created by newbies or first timers. Your first WB skin, Shmoopy was a great example.
By the way, your third skin is awesome.

Thank you MadIce, my thoughts exactly!

I think if WC had a randomizer thing-a-ma-bob on their index page that had the 'random' link of skins that it would be really neat! And if a curious surfer 'refreshed' their page they'ed see a link to a totally different skin from a different category...but it would always be fresh and new and give old, new, current skins a chance to always be rotated into the spotlight to an individual surfer!
