Feature Request - Include List

Include Applications List

Would it be foreseeable to add an application include list (along side the exclude list). I would really like to setup groupy to automatically group apps of the same type together, but only for certain apps, and leave the rest alone. Seems like my exclude list is going to get WAY too long if try to set things up that way currently.

YES! 100x this. I had to uninstall Groupy because exclude doesn't seem to work and/or have to keep excluding more and more apps. Chrome keeps trying to dock even though I've excluded it every which way.

I want to include some specific apps like Explorer and Notepad and have those always grouped together in a group by app type (so one group for Explorer, one for Notepad). And then no other apps try to group.

Groupy is already capable of what you want.

Simply group two windows together of the same type and from the ... menu pick Automatically group all "explorer.exe" windows together as an example for explorer.

No need to force it on all windows, that option is simply for those who want to group everything.

That only works if you have a group already started. I want it to always do it from scratch. For example, I have it set up like this:

If I open a couple of Explorers and then group them, and then open a couple more they go into the group. But I have to manually go find the first couple and drag them to the group to start the group before new Explorer will go into a group. Just starting from a clean desktop, no Explorer, and hitting Win+E a couple times and they don't group.

This is on Groupy 1.02.

Also I figured out why Chrome was still grouping -- I had hit the three seashells menu and picked "never automatically group", but that doesn't seem to actually do anything. Instead I had to go over to Settings in Groupy go to the exclude list, and manually find the .exe. Why can't I do that from the three seashells? Now I got to go find all the .exe's that I "never automatically group"ed and add them to the exclude list. And of course I can't click in to or copy the path from the never automatically group list... why aren't they the same list with 3 states, "never, sort of, auto".

Just got Groupy 1.1 update applied and it looks to have solved the multiple explorers not being grouped sometimes issue.

Awesome!

I'm still seeing some applications not automatically group new windows, even if they are set to automatically group.

An example is https://getgreenshot.org/. Take a screenshot and open in editor. It shows grouped mode (even though is only one tab), as it should. Take another screenshot and open in editor. It opens a second group instead of adding to the first group.

Have you tried today's 1.11 beta update that is downloadable from this forum?

Yes, I just installed 1.11, rebooted, and still the same.

I have a feeling Greenshot may be doing something strange with the way they create new windows -- they tend to appear under other windows sometimes (even without Groupy).

Still happening for me, any updates?
