Start 10 and apps startup

Hi

I have Win10 x64 Home and use Start10

Some of my default apps do not load as the default when I double click or right click on a file.

For example when I double click on a jpg I get a box and a message 

"How do you want to open this file?" 
"Keep using this app" (which is the default Photo app)

When I select the default app and do or do not put a tick in the "Always use this app" nothing happens. The same box and message comes up again.

I have tried resetting the default, including re-writing to the registry but it has not worked.

I did notice that the path to the default "photo" app is

D:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe" /Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App

which may indicate that Start10 is involved somewhere.

I would really appreciate some help with how to fix this.
