Some icons have disappeared and will not restore

I am running Fences v3.0.5.12 and really LOVE the program but today for the first time some icons have disappeared and will not restore! It is fairly random, some icons in some fences, mainly references to local files and folders. I checked that the files and folders are still there. Some (if not all) missing links are to a drive with an drive letter pointing to a data folder (not a physical drive) - I forgot what you call that on Win 7. The drive letter is assigned on startup. Has worked perfectly until now. It seems that fences is not aware that the drive is there.

If Fences has become unreliable I will have to discontinue using it because the effort of restoring the references manually is an enormous task! I have many fences on several desktops and don't even remember all the icons that were there.

Is there any chance to recover?

Have you tried reinstalling Fences? Is the root location of those files changing at any point? (Drive name, Folder name, etc?)

Will re-installation preserve my settings? Should I remove the program first or install over it?

I have the same issue. Multiple icons have disappeared from my Fences. When I disable Fences, they show on the desktop but when Fences is enabled, they are no longer there.

It sounds as if this is a Folder Portal then, yes?  If so, remove and recreate it to see if the files then show.

In my case they are just individual links to files or folders and it happened when the drive letter was not mapped at startup. Even though the the same drive letter is mapped again to the same folders, the link icons did not restore, even when restoring a fences layout snapshot.

>>> I have just tried to reproduce the error again by dismounting USB drives and shutting down network clients, then rebooting my main WIN 7 machine - no icons lost! This is either rrandom or triggered by other events/co-incidences. It has not occurred since installing the latest version 3.8.0.1. <<<
