Multiplicity says I have the wrong passcode when connecting.

Multiplicity says I have the wrong passcode when connecting.

Hi,

My Multiplicity software stopped working, after working perfectly fine for months.  I get the message:

"A connection to DESKTOP-2R66LR4 cannot be made as you have the wrong passcode.  Multiplicity will try to reconnect in the background..."

The thing is, the passcode is correct.  It was correct before, and I have changed it several times to make sure.  I have reinstalled the software on both computers multiple times.  I have disabled Windows Firewall.  I have tried nuking all references to Stardock and Multiplicity from disk and registry (yet the software still pops up with memory of the previous settings), reinstalling, and trying again to no avail.

Both computers are on the same network.  When I click configure from the primary, I get the "multiplicity was able to successfully connect to this computer." message.  There is a different message if the passcode is wrong:

I have not changed the encryption key, which is the default "CHANGEME" on both computers.

Please help.  I rely on this software for my productivity at work.

Mine too recently stopped working. I tried changing the pass to numbers only, then ran the purge script on both computers and re-installed. It is working again, but with a strange side effect..........my secondary computer can be on either the 2.4G or 5G connection to my home network and everything works fine. However, the primary computer can ONLY be on my 2.4G network to connect. The moment I switch to 5G I get the wrong passcode error even though it was literally just working. This started for me after the Fall Windows update I finally accepted yesterday. I do not think it is third party software interfering but rather how Windows is handling traffic from 5G networks. I hope you find a solution, I'm on the trial right now and obviously will not purchase if I can't get it to work correctly.

Sorry for the thread necro, but THIS.  THIS is the reason why Multiplicity stops connecting.  Being connected to the 5GHz wifi on the primary PC.  Switch to 2.4 and it works!

Likely because the 5ghz network is on a different subnet...

The router supports both 2.4 and 5GHz.  When I switch from one band to the other, I keep the same IP address.  Same subnet mask.  Same 192.168.1.* ip.  I made sure both PCs were using 5GHz, and it failed to connect.  The "TEST" button would say that the connection succeeded, but then actually connecting failed.  The secondary can be on 5GHz, as long as my primary is on 2.4.
