Personal Issues with Ship builder and Map Grid

Okay, I know about adjusting things and all that, but why, why, why did there have to be the Hex style grid? the old square grid was better.

Also the Ship creator at the shipyard that has been changed so much that as someone who likes creating and inventing new ship styles cannot do this with any confidence. These are the two main issues I have with GalCiv3 and two reasons why I rarely play it, it would be nice if there was an option to switch to the GalCiv 2 style Grid and shipbuilder, so players can have a choice of what style they like.

I have no issues with the rest of the game, it is just those two and as it is not likely to change anytime soon as I feel there are more players who like the new Hex grid and new shipyard to create ships, that I am in the minority. So for me buying GalCiv3 was personally a waste of money for me, and the game looked good in the promos too. :|

Umm... a hex grid is far, FAR superior. It's the one thing from Civilization 5 and 6 that I WISH I could mod into Civ4. I remember first seeing hex grids in strategy games in KOEI titles on the Super Nintendo and was blown away by it.

Gah, apparently I hit quote, not edit... Sorry for extra post.

As the benighted mongoose says, hex grids are far superior to Cartesian grids - philosophically, at least.  I do miss the keypad movement; it allows much easier fine control and my mouse hand gets so tired.

I'm still undecided about the Designer.  Now that I've discovered middle-button rotation, it's not the disaster I first thought.  A couple of issues, though:

* Tool tips on the category tabs would be nice.  As in, "Why the heck aren't they already there?"

* I understand why there are mirrored components, but do you have to mirror everything mounted on them?  One weapon on a mc occupies two hardpoints.  And it's difficult to tell which C are M.

* I do like the reciprocating animation, though not sure how useful it will be.

More as I use it more.

BTW, does anyone recall what a PITA the GCII designer was before you got used to it?

Each to their own, this I know, but I still like the standard Grid more than the hex grid and the new shipyard designer interface does not have the same capabilities that the one in GalCiv TOA had.

But for some or most the new set up is liked, but I am not one of those.
