Vanished fence - still in list, still has icons

Hello,

I recently got a weird problem where my largest fence full of game shortcuts has vanished. I checked my desktop in explorer and all the icons are still present but I'm unable to find the fence anywhere.

I have disabled the multi screen scrolling and the roll up and hidden fences just to be sure. I'm unable to re-create the fence because I can't add duplicate icons to my desktop and they already exist.

The fence is still listed in 'add new icons to' context menu, but otherwise I'm unable to view it anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Going on past experience it may be that your fence was inadvertently pushed/dragged off-screen to the right.  If that has happened, you can recover the fence by moving your cursor off-screen to the right, estimate roughly where the titlebar should be, right click and drag it back.  It may take a few attempts but this should work.

Also, you can lock the fence in its position by right clicking on the desktop, click on view and click 'Lock Fences' on the subsequent panel.  This should help prevent Fences going off-screen again.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I have no other screens enabled and thus can't really go off screen on the right.

I've locked fences to prevent this in the future.

As a workaround, I went to desktop in windows explorer and deleted the shortcuts.. re-created them in a new fence.

Any way to delete the old fence if I can't find it? It's listed in fence options but no way to remove it that I can find.

You do not need to have other active screens for Fences to go off screen.  You would have noticed that when you press your cursor to the right edge of the screen that it disappears until you move it back to the left... well that's where your Fence went.  Mine did it the other day when I removed a shortcut to the desktop and tried to replace it on the Fence farther to the right.  As I moved the shortcut I could see the Fence also moving to the right and off-screen.

Your original Fence is still there and is retrievable if you can right click and grab the titlebar, which can be easier said than done.  If the Fence was horizontal across the screen it can be more difficult than if it was vertically placed up and down the screen.

Anyhow, hope this helps and good luck with it. |-)
