Fences & Windows 10 performance issues and more.

Fences laggy and slow with Windows 10 almost unusable

Hello,

I have been using fences for a long time.  Up until windows 10 came out, fences has been an awesome program to use.  Ever since I went to windows 10, fences is really slow and has lots of issues and its just becoming a pain to deal with, but I love fences.

1. You cannot double click an icon inside of a fenced area, it will not launch the application it will only hide the desktop.

Workaround: Left click the icon once, wait a second for fences to recognize that you clicked the icon then click the icon again, hopefully it is fast enough to launch the application not want to rename it.

2. Along with the left click recognition issue, you cannot left click an icon and immediately drag it somewhere else, all it does is make a square and ask if you want to create a fence along with highlight all of the icons in its path.

Workaround: Again, left click and wait a second, then drag the icon.

3. When deleting something form my desktop from the downloads fence which is where all newly downloaded programs end up, the last 3 programs I used get moved to the downloads fence on its own.

  Workaround: None.

4. Fences randomly crashes at least once every week to where I have to reboot.  None of the fence windows are on the screen and icons are offset from the original location like a checker board.

  Workaround: None (reboot to fix)

I formatted my computer again about 6 months ago or a little more, and even after just installing fences after my initial drivers and updates, these issues still happened.

My PC Specs:

EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Video Card

AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor

Windows: 10 64 bit

Asus M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X Sata 6GB (motherboard)

ASUS Xonar Essence STX (Sound Card)

4. Fences randomly crashes at least once every week to where I have to reboot.  None of the fence windows are on the screen and icons are offset from the original location like a checker board.
End of quote

Workaround:

ctr+alt+delete to bring up the taskmanager
now locate windows-explorer under processes.
right click and restart.
Fences will open up afterwards and your icons will be back in them again, saves you the restart.

The latest beta is released with bug fixes.

You can read about it and download at https://forums.stardock.com/483312/Fences-305-beta-now-available

I installed the beta and it is no faster than 3.04.  I have tried uninstalling, running the purge bat file and there is no change.  A support ticket is open but I think Stardock is out of ideas for now.  If anyone has found a solution please post it.

I was having the same slow performance reported on a Windows 10 machine after updating to to v3.04. Installing Fences_3.05_beta_sd didn't fix the problem. I uninstalled Fences, installed Fences_3.00_setup_sd, problems solved (so far).

I also have been through the purge, uninstall/reinstall, stop/start, FencesDisable.bat, FencesUnregister.bat, upgraded to V3.0.5 and the doubleclicking on an icon on the desktop response time progressively increased. I have uninstalled 3.0.5 and installed 3.0.1 and response time has returned to normal.

This issue has now re-occurred over the past 2 weeks.  The only thing that has changed since last time is i have installed some steam games.

Any update as to why there is such a performance hit after a while of it being installed?  It is very frustrating having to click an icon, wait a couple of seconds to make sure its selected and then having to hit enter, because if you double click, the response is so slow that it just hides your desktop.

Its been almost a month since my last update and nobody from support has even written anything.  Can we please get some kind of response, i'm not the only one having this issue.  I tried older versions with the same result.  Even with a new install of windows.

I have the same problem. Rewerting to 3.03 fixes the problem, so its a bug in newest version.

Same performance issues for me, even more, explorer.exe was constantly using a lot of CPU between 5-15%, when I uninstalled Fences that stopped too.
