[Solved] Recently Used Programs not working

Windows 10 Creators

Hi there

I recently upgraded my Windows 10 with the Creators update and, weirdly, I now have no recently used items.

I noticed, after the update, that "Show recently used applications" was unticked.  So I re-ticked it, but am still not seeing any recently used apps being populated.

Is this a known issue?

Cheers

A quick test here shows that recently used apps should continue to populate as before on Creators Edition.  If you have it turned off you may find it needs a reboot to start working if you had also turned off the OS option to actually track this information (which is on by default)

Also make sure you are not using anything which 'cleans things' for privacy.  Sometimes they clear those lists too which would obviously stop it working.

It's working now, thanks.  Just to confirm - The option was always on.  Following the Creators Edition update, the option had been turned off.  After turning it back on, it needs a reboot to kick in :)

Cheers

I just want to add that I had exactly the same problem. Re-checking the box (and rebooting) fixed the problem, although all of the previous items on my recently-used list were gone.

[update] After a Win10 patch last night the option was once again disabled. Same fix, but something is clearly not working here.

Certainly this action of having to reboot before Start10 menu kicks after it fails to restore all previous links on the menu in is a complete waste of time. It is a BUG! The application has a bug and the StarDock creators of the menu can't seem to fix it. On my system when I switch off my PC the start menu is cleared once I turn it on again and I'm not running any background privacy checking applications. This problem has been going for a long time. They can't or won't fix it.

If your list is blank every time you reboot and then rebuilds based on the apps you ran since reboot then something on your computer IS wiping it.  The list is maintained by the Operating System, not Start10.

Are telling me that no one can program Start10 to get/instruct Windows to avoid wiping the list of links? As an ordinary every day user your answer makes little sense.

An application cannot stop another application deleting registry keys especially ones which are not its own.

The most probable cause is something on your computer is for 'privacy' reasons deleting the registry keys that Windows uses to remember the most recently used apps information.  The most common case would be something resetting the OS setting to do not store this (which would make it clear the old data), and utilities which intentionally delete those things.  Tools which delete your browser history might have a similar effect.

It is not normal or expected for the list to be wiped on a reboot.
