Start10 issues on Win 10 (Solved)

I updated to Windows 10 version:1703 OS build:15063.138

Prior to the update everything was fine with Start10

now I have issues with icons missing on Start10. Only Icon that shows is "System Settings".

Also the user folders won't open on the right hand side (Documents, Pictures, and ETC.) Left Mouse clicking to open these folders Opens Command Prompt only. Right Clicking and selecting "Open" from context menu does open the folders though.

any help would be appreciated Thanks.

Which version of Start10 are you using?  It should say on the about page.

Thats not normal, we did have one user report a problem with the document link etc but it turned out to be corrupted OS libraries on their install and not Start10 itself.

Hello Neil

Thanks for your reply.

I am using Start10 Version 1.53 I haven't seen any libraries having issues since I have updated but I could be wrong.

If I right mouse click on the folder name on Start10. I can go to properties and then add or remove folders. I have chosen to make a new folder and try, It still does the same thing no matter what I do or where the folder is located.

I have even tried Start10 Beta 1.54 and it does the same thing. so I will do some more research on libraries.

well I have tried everything in the world that I can think of to fix this.

I did fix icons to show in most used area.

But can't figure out this "Open Command Prompt Here" right click context menu on start10.

forces a folder to open command prompt even on left mouse click.

I have even tried to remove "Open Command Prompt Here" from the system which didn't fix.

It certainly looks like Open command window here has been defined as the default action for the links in question which I imagine is the problem.  Open should be the default.

well I fixed it. going into registry and searching for "cmd2" Which turned out to be the folder needing to be deleted or you could search for "Open command window here" and delete the folder.

So I figured out what caused all the issues with Opening a command prompt window while clicking on the right hand folder menu in Start10. I had applied "Open Command Prompt Here" with a Windows 10 Reg file (Reg File wasn't the issue). I also used "Winaero Tweaker" which was the issue. while both had "Open Command Prompt Here" activated the "Winaero Tweaker" had added it to the Context menu of Start10 and made it active. which being active meaning it made it the first option and active option in the Start10 context menu. so even left clicking opened the command prompt window instead of the folders. I learned don't use "Winaero Tweaker" to add that option again lol.

Good to know what the root cause is in case others experience the same problem.
