Unable to change the System font

Hi,

I'm new WindowsBlinds, I just bough it today! I'm using Windows 10, with the new Creators Update.

I'd like to use "Modern" (by Danioc & Stardock) as my theme. But what I really need, before a new theme, is to be able to use "Arial Unicode MS Regular" as the System font.

Without WindowsBlinds (or using the "Default theme"), I'm able to change that System font using a third-party tool (but I'm sure this works too). But even if I set all the settings that seem to be related to fonts in WindowsBlinds so they use  "Arial Unicode MS Regular", it always results in "Segoe UI" (the default System font)!!

Here are my settings :

and

I also tried to change the System font after the WindowsBlinds theme is applied, but without success : it always reverts back to "Segoe UI".

Any idea?

Well I think so. As a WindowBlind maker I usually set my own fonts in most locations in Skinstudio. (SKS).

Modern is a very nice skin. However most of the skin was made in SKS using the OS default font setting. So I think you trying to change it in WB will not work. Notice it says "Do you want to override the font defined by the style" Can't do that since most of the style in this skin is controlled by the win10 system font.  Much to detailed to advice you of all the many places each font in SKS has to be changed.

What I would suggest is to change your system font and try that. I have never done that so do it at your own risk. If you type in Google "change window 10 system font" It will tell you how to do it.

Thanks for the reply DaveBax.

As I said, I'm very new to WindowsBlinds. I wasn't even aware of Skinstudio!

Could I use it to modify the "Modern" theme? If so :

- Where do I download Skinstudio. It's not very clear.
- Where are the "Modern" theme files so I can modifiy them?

I'm also open to pay a small amount (PayPal) to someone who could provide me a modified version of the "Modern" theme with "Arial Unicode MS Regular" as the System font! The only condition is that I must be able to use "Echo" as the taskbar theme (with "Settings / Use the taskbar and startmenu  from the current style" set to "Echo"), but the Echo taskbar style is already compatible with the Modern theme.

Thanks for the help!

You CANNOT change the system font via the theme/control panel anymore, not after MS nerfed the option due to "streamlining" the UI in the creator's update, which is the very reason we BOUGHT this program!... <_<

Of which I am now regretting, due to the number of incompatible separate programs included with my Object Desktop purchase, which is inexcusable as there's no updated alternatives specific to the CURRENT windows 10 systems! #:(

1. I didn't know the option was taken away.

2. Stardock does one hell of a job keeping things working as good as they can with the constant win10 changes. If and when they win10 slows down on making so many other things screwed up SD will be able to spend more time or other programs. Right now they are keeping the core programs going and as soon as Microsoft slows down a bit SD will get to other programs making them capable. Fonts can be changed using skinstudio but takes time and patience to learn it. Which is another reason there aren't a lot of Skinners left.

Thanks for the response, ok, that makes sense but seeing as win 10 is less a OS now and more a "service" I can only see your their job becoming more difficult in the months ahead, my main irritation is because these are some of the programs that I bought the suite for:

  • Icon Dev
  • Sound Packager
  • Modern Mix
  • Decore 8

And Theme manager is largely non functional as several OS updates are neglected as well as the specific tools used in customization within the program...And I'll definitely give skin studio a go as I despise win 10's anti-customizing UI that much!

EDIT: My god, the artist in me is absolutely salivating at the creative power that is skin studio, now if only this forum allowed for avatars for new users!

Decor8 and ModernMix are strictly Windows 8/8.1 applications.  ModernMix for example serves no purpose on Windows 10 as Modern/Universal applications already run in a window.

SoundPackager and IconDeveloper should be compatible with Windows 10 however and I will check why they are not if thats the case.

I see there is a lot of action in the skinning scene for Windows 10! ;-)

I understand Microsoft are hard to follow with all those things they force in Windows10. It reminds me of Firefox these days : it seems they think they know better than you "what you really want" for a layout/theme. Please don't do that! What I want is the tools and the possibility to configure things as I want!

That said, I submitted a ticket to get a copy of Skin Studio, since I don't see anything related to it in "My Downloads" :

No answer from Stardock yet...

I'm a developer so it's ok for me if it's not 100% easy to modify a skin, I'll try anyway.

Can someone simply tell me where I can find the sources of that "Modern" theme, so I can open it in Skin Studio (once I get it) and try to modify it?

Thanks in advance!

If you purchased Windowblinds SKS should be on your My accounts page.

NOTE: Remember if you modify Modern it is for your own personal use only and you cannot upload or pass it out to anyone. When you have SKS installed PM me with your email address. I will be happy to work with you going in the correct direction to change things.

SKS is short for skinstudio.

You don't need to worry where the source files are, when you install SkinStudio you just pick the skin you want to modify from within the program itself, it lists them all. But for reference, Windowblinds skins are stored in C:\Users\Public\Stardock\Windowblinds\ . :)
