Fences 3 (latest) and Windows 10 (1607 build 14393)
I've been using Stardock products as a means to add more useful features to Windows, features that Microsoft should've implemented in the first place. I even downgraded my new PC to stay on Windows 7 Ultimate instead of the included Windows 10 due to various personal reasons, but not having reliable versions of the Stardock products I find it extremely hard to live without was a big, no, a HUGE factor in my decision to stay on Windows 7.
Now I've actually put those feelings aside and upgraded my PC to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and was hoping to find updated or more stable versions of my Stardock products. I own the Object Desktop Suite, so pretty much every currently supported program is available for me to use and download. While not all of the programs included with the suite have been updated for Windows 10, some seemed to be left behind for good, the ones that I would actually want to install on my system are the ones giving me the biggest headaches. Namely FENCES.
I've only recently started using "Start 10" now that I'm using Win10 and missing my old Win7 start menu. So far it hasn't been a problem whatsoever. Icon Packager, another program I use either daily or multiple times a week, is a hit and miss. I'm a compulsive neat freak with borderline OCD issues, ones you'd see in a movie, basically used for comedic purposes. Well, that's me. It sucks and it's not funny. It's hard to deal with and manage my life without getting frustrated, not so much as frustrated with "insert cause of frustration here" but more of me being frustrated with myself and my inability to cope with my OCD. Making new icons and updating all the horrendous icons software companies set for their products has become a hobby for me.
Getting back on point. Icon Developer, a product not listed as compatible with Windows 10, is actually the only program I've had absolutely ZERO problems with. It always works flawlessly. I tend not to use it as much due to me acquiring IconFX, but that's not because I didn't like the program, IconFX just had more features. It would be nice to see Icon Developer update for Windows 10 and with more features. While I like IconFX, I could still accomplish everything it does with Icon Developer, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and on occasion Resource Hacker. Yea, sure, I know it seems weird having to use multiple programs to accomplish what one can do on it's own but IconFX doesn't do it as well as all the others combined, even though it does include all the features they all have.
Back on topic. (I put this in red to tell myself to shut up and to grab your attention)
Fences, a program that says it's compatible, performs like a snail. A snail who's handicapped and can't actually move around on it's own and has to rely on other snails, name it's grandmother, to pull it around by a rope attached to the shell. Jokes aside Fences shouldn't be listed as compatible. Sure, I can install it, but why bother? The input lag it suffers from is just too much to for somebody to have to deal with. Yes my mouse drivers are up to date, along with everything else I'm sure support will try to throw at me while trying to offer a fix.
I figured I'd help myself by including some system specs that I thought might come into factor when trying to find a fix.
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit Version 1607 build 14393.953
CPU: Intel i7 6700 @3.4GHz
RAM: 16gb DDR4 @ 2133MHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 Founders Edition 8GB GDDR5X
I'm not using Window Blinds or Deskscapes. Using default system theme set on "Dark" mode.
Start10 settings all pretty much default. No transparency on taskbar.
Fences (uninstalling once I post this) everything set to default except for "show fence outlines and rounded fence edges"
Basically anything making anything transparent I don't have activated. Only exception is transparency when dragging windows.
I have a program called "Aqua Snap" installed because even though Windows 10 includes a better snapping feature than what Windows 7 had, it's still lacking.
All the above was provided as a means to help troubleshoot any incompatible software or settings that would cause Fences to behave the way it does.
If an icon is not located within a fence itself, it performs and drags around the desktop without a hitch. Now when I try to drag fences around or resize them, that's a whole different story. It's SLOW. I even tried to test it with a single icon in a fence, same results. Multiple reinstalls and system reboots afterwards, no malware or viruses from scans. SFC Scannow and CHKDSK all reported back 100%.
Don't know what else to say, other than I apologize for the wall of text. Hope support can help.
Thanks.
