Fences Keep Crashing My Computers
I have been using Fences 3 for a while now on Windows 7 but using it on Windows 10 has been a disaster.
Late last year I bought a high end Tablet with W10 Pro 64 bit. It worked like a charm until I installed Fences 3. The first sign of trouble was when the icons disappeared, but the names of the icons still showed in the fences. They were all overlapping each other so they were useless.
After trying a few recommended windows fixes for missing icons, the whole operating system was corrupted and required a re-instillation of W10. Not even system restore would work.
When it was reinstalled, the first thing I installed was Fences. Same bloody problem and it required another re-installation of W10. The third time I installed it after everything else, making sure I had a complete working backup, just in case of another unreconstructable crash. For some unknown reason, this time it worked and has been okay.
A couple of weeks ago, after upgrading my Tower PC with a bigger SSD, Windows 10 Home 64 bit was installed. It did exactly the same thing as the tablet. It played up the same way and caused a Windows meltdown, this time without me even trying any Windows fixes. After reinstalling Windows 10 again on the SSD I installed many of the required apps and it was working fine for a few days.
Today, when I booted into Windows 10, the fences could not be moved or adjusted. The PC was rebooted and looked okay. A new icon was moved into a fence and then I tried adjusting the size of the fence. No go and this time, it froze the computer. As soon as it restarted, I immediately removed Fences as I have no desire to use software that keeps causing a meltdown that requires a complete reinstall of Windows 10.
Stating its a Microsoft bug/issue is a cop out. Every other app I use is fine with Windows 10 (and Seven) so even if its a MS issue, you can bet you last $ MS won't fix it if it is only causing one app to fail. Its up to Stardock to develop a workaround.
