So, just finished watching the most recent episode of Star Wars Rebels. Geeked out hard!
Spoiler ahead:
They announed early in episode that Ezra was going to Tatooine. Of course, first thing I think of is Obi-Wan! But then figured no way are they going to give us some old Ben action. Never been so happy to be wrong! The plot was that Maul was tricking Ezra into using the light side holocron to track down Obi-Wan Kenobi who Maul had insuated was alive and that he was going to go kill. Ezra, the dope that he is, falls for it of course, and leads Maul where he wants to go.
Ezra not prepared for the desert of Tatooine, is in deep trouble out in the heat and passes out. Enter (somewhat) Old Ben! But for the first time we see a much wiser Obi-Wan. We see an Obi-Wan who is not worried, who has his shit together. That alone had me going, really felt the Alec Guinness connection! The rematch with Darth Maul was satisfying to say the least. Ezra is going on about helping to fight Maul. Think due to a combo of regret for having led Maul to Kenobi and also from the past contact with Maul where Ezra and Kanan together were not a great match for him. Ben calmly sends Ezra on his way out of trouble (surprisingly without telling him to keep quiet about Kenobi's being still alive.) Maul of course is ready to get down to killing and some revenge for prior defeat. Maul starts his lightsaber spinning action and comes in for the attack, presumably to start an epic battle with Kenobi. But NO! 3 swings, (2 being counters and one being an attack and the fight is over. Maul has just fought a Jedi fully prepared and at his apparent best ever!
Much like Vader at the end of Rogue One, Kenobi had the feeling of being an actual master of what he was doing. Not a bead of sweat broken and one of the long lived baddies of Star Wars pre-ANH (A New Hope) is gone!
End of Kenobis part in this episode: As darkness is falling, Kenobi is a fair distance away watching over a small domed domicile out in the desert. You hear a womans voice calling "Luke!, Luke!" and see a small figure running in the darkness to home!
Watched the last 10 minutes 3 times back to back (to back!) immediately.
