Virtual machine licenses?

I use a lot of virtual machines, but only occasionally. Do I have to purchase one license for each virtual machine? Thanks.

Also, I am the only person who uses the host and guests.

He means that your VM install would use the same license that the host PC uses.

Actually each VM will count as its own machine for activations.  Virtual or otherwise, an install is an install.
