The real "suicidal" difficulty level - game pacing very slow

There used to be a suicidal difficulty level in the game, which marigolden has taunted about a year ago. This level has been since removed/renamed a few updates back. 

However, with the nerfing of colony capital (a change I like very much), game pacing (very slow) + god like difficulty level + Iconian is the real challenge. 

Here is what you get after colonizing a planet with 2.5 pop. 42 turns to build the first factory.

Colonizing with 0.5 pop? 97 turns to build the first factory.

AI does not suffer as much, 7 turns for Terran to build a factory with 2.8 pop

And Krynn is even better with their 50% pop boost during colonization - 4 turns

 

My thought: maybe game pacing could be a separate multiplier, as oppose to a linear one that can be cancelled by factories, or faction traits.

With "very slow" game pacing, planet colonization has only two benefits:

1. Denial of access from competing factions

2. Ideological points

 

It really forces everyone to play a tall game. 

Other thoughts: "very fast" game pacing blunt significantly the handicaps AI receives.

Absolutely correct... when I started playing GC3 first, it was my expectation that it would be implemented this way, but I was mistaken. Have never changed the setting from its default since, as it really only affects the early game, and I prefer long games.

Game pacing + Tech speed NEED to be separate multipliers from improvement and starbase boni. Same should apply in my opinion to some other boni/mali, like extreme planet raw production malus, and maybe some others. Otherwise, many boni/mali, whether from planet type, planetary events, or mega events are no longer significant by the endgame.

I like really slow games.

I modded base growth from 0.2 to 0.08, population to production exponent from 1.0 to 0.92 and increased the tech inflation_all exponent and the tech inflation_tree exponents.

Pacing is much better now, though the numbers could use some tweaking.

Afraid it may break the ai's colonizing some with the default 2.5 pop per colony ship.

The most difficult level in the game for AI is Godlike and always has been?  

However, I do agree game speed is just something to delay the start of the game.  As far as buildings I don't wait 46 turns for a building to be done I purchase it for 300 credits or whatever the starting is, research hives and get the game moving.  Instead of that, what they should do is something like this formula (manufacturing points x % bonus) / or x (game speed)  example  (8 x 325% = 26) / 2 = 13 for very slow.
