Icons keep moving to my right screen instead of left screen which is primary display. Running Windows 10 and fences 3
I am also having this problem with Fences 3.03 and windows 10. My right side screen (1) is primary and when I start my PC cold, the fences would be switched to my left side screen (2) secondary. I have fiddled with the settings on the Layout&Snapping settings page. Currently set at "Store on per screen resolution basis, with the "when I plug in a new primary monitor..." box unchecked. I have tried all different settings here to no avail.
Note that I can reboot the system and fences remain where I want them, only on shut off state and cold start they switch to monitor (2). Also only happens sometimes, so it is hard to troubleshoot.
To OP: would you try to see if yours is only happening on cold start as well? Maybe we can solve this together. Thanks.
I have the same issue. Windows 10 is terrible at managing multiple monitors! It moves my icons, Fences, Jing sun, etc. randomly between the laptop screen and the 2 attached external monitors while I am docked. Restarting will move things around with no rhyme or reason.
So far, I have just turned off the automatic sorting and then dragged them where I want them. Sucks though!
I have decided that, for me, this is a windows 10 hardware initialization problem and will do like lee61561 and just manually move them myself. It's 50/50 at startup as to which monitor windows decides is primary today.
I will check back from time to time to see if anyone finds a solution. Thanks all, enjoy your day.
This made my issues go away: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Knowledgebase/Article/View/456/115/my-icons-are-missing
this happened to me frequently as well. I have a laptop (with lid closed) running two 32 inch monitors on my desk. Monitor 1 is my left (where I wanted the Fences with my icons) and Monitor 2 is my right.
After troubleshooting some with Stardock, the answer appears to be in the Registry Editor. If you open regedit, then go to Stardock>Settings and then "PrimaryMonitorLast" you will find something like "\\.\DISPLAY1" as a value. Mine would change, for some reason, to DISPLAY2 or DISPLAY5 or something. Anything other than "1" at the end of the string put all the icons/fences on the right monitor (2). So if I edit that to have a 1 at the end, on any reboot, they will still show up on the left monitor (1) as they should be set up to do.
I still don't know what caused this (it hasn't happened in a few weeks) but that's always fixed it for me.
I just had to re-image my system and the problem went away. The registry fix was not able to solve my issue. Thanks for the responses.
