Using ObjectDock

ObectDock

Okay, I'm giving ObjectDock another try. Where do I put the extracted files? Zoomers, Tabs, Docks, Backgrounds? This is where I get lost. I like Winstep & SysMetrix (SMX is not supported any more I think). Ditto for DesktopX. HELP PLEASE! :jafo: :(O *_* :waaaa:

What about tabs, zoomers and docks? Do they go in the same folder? I'm having problems with OD crashing.

I'm running Windows 8.1.

As Jaroepz said, C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds is where you will find/put Tabs, Tiles and Zoomers. If you open the Backgrounds folder, you will see the folders. If you open the Tabs folder, you will see folders for the various tabbed docks. If you use "Configure ObjectDock" to change the background, that's where it goes to find the new background. Sometimes you get the backgrounds in a zip file, and you have to unzip it and place the folder in the correct folder in Program Files.

As for it crashing, I'm pretty sure that ObjectDock is compatible with 8.1. Are you using an old version of ObjectDock?

Yes, ObjectDock Plus190.

I'm wary of buying the new version if I can't get it to work right. In the folder it has Non-Tabbed, Tabbed, Tabbed Only & Tiles. 8C

My main rig runs Win10. I have a tower with 7 and a laptop with 8.1.

Regular dock backgrounds are usually zoomers. You put them in the corresponding folder. Same as with tiles and tabbed docks. OD will run fine on Win 7 and 8.1.

On Win 10 there is an issue with invisible programs which OD picks up from running programs in the background, usually Settings. Other than that it should work fairly well.

I only see these 4 folders in the backgrounds folder.

I'm using 2.0 on Windows 7. It is not supported on Windows 10, although some people have said that it works for them if I remember correctly.

If you open the Non-Tabbed, Tabbed, etc. folders, you can pick an example and see the image file to give you an idea of which of the folders is right for your extracted files. Tiles are a one-icon only dock; if you have several shortcuts and use tiles, each shortcut has it's own tile.

I see no reason to worry about getting the new version to work for you. Perhaps a visit to Support might be useful at some point. Somebody else who knows a bit more will probably make a comment here.

Thanks, that helps me a lot. I use Winstep on my 10 rig, really prefer it over OD but as newer skins don't have matching gadget, widgets, etc. I thought I go with OD. Thanks to every ones input. 5* 5* 5* 5* 5* B) *_*

Since you've mentioned widgets, my guess is that you're running Winstep Xtreme and you're referring to the *desktop* modules/widgets... is that correct? Can you please give me an example of such a skin and which Winstep widgets are not being skinned by it, SpicyGirl?

Yes, some of Lightstar's, Neone6, Vampothika & starone's.  Would love to see some for some of the older skins too.

Ah, ok, you mean some of the new *WindowBlinds* skins that have no matching Winstep themes! :)

Sorry, I thought you meant some Winstep themes were not skinning Winstep modules properly. Was getting worried already. =)

Just put Tiles and zoom in the background folder and Tabs in the Tab folder. That's it. If you have the OD settings window open close it before you add the docks to folders. Then open it and change your dock.
