Before upgrading to v4 - Duplicate Skin Folder/files?

A few very quick questions:
After a year or so of WindowBlinds (v2 & v3) I am about to install v4. But before doing so I decided to check out my Program Files/Object Desktop/WindowBlinds folder. There I was surprised to find a number of seemingly duplicate folders, for example: "BluePlame" and "BLUEPHLAME[1]", "ivory_wb" and "IVORY_WB[1]", "passive" and "PASSIVE[1]". In each case, each folder is full of files.
1) Why are these folders duplicated?
2) Would it be appropriate to delete both folders of a skin and re-download the most current version of that particular WindowBlind skin?
3) Any further suggestions?
4) Oh yes, do I uninstall v3 before installing v4?
And a hardy thank you to all you designers out there... I marvel at your imagination and handiwork every day.

1) I am not sure but I think that when double installing, or installing a theme that is currently in use this can happen, I had a few of duplicate ones myself

2) Yes. At the very least the cache-files in the skins can create problems between version if left behind.

3) Uninstall the previous version and make sure the whole folder with all skins et.c being wiped. Reboot and reinstall. This is per recommendation from Stardock.

4) See 3)

I uninstalled WB 3 and rebooted before installing WB 4. I didn't delete the folder or the skins. I know Stardock recommended uninstalling the Beta version and the skins that came with it for those who were running the Beta versions during the development phase, based on what I saw in the newsgroup. But I don't recall that they recommended that for everyone. Perhaps I missed that. At least, I've had no problems with just uninstalling WB 3 and leaving my skins.

RE: duplicates: I found that when I download a skin update, the original skin folder and files remain. So you wind up with the older versions and the newer versions. I now delete the old version of a skin before I download an update version. Depending how many duplicates you have, you may find it easier to delete them and download the latest version. (Since I didn't have many duplicates, I looked in the folders to see which had the most recent files and deleted the old version folder.)
