Renewal or Buy Again...cheaper

I can renew my current Object Dock (OD) for $29.99. But, I can just buy another from the site for $19.99.  (Not sure why the renewal costs more than another subscription).

No brainer, blow off the renewal. Just buy it again...

But, do I wait until my current OD expires so I can get a full year's coverage, or if I install today will it add on to my existing contract.

It seems obvious that the answer is probably wait and install the newly purchased OD, but I thought I'd check

Just so it's clear to anyone reading this thread, the $19.99 Object Desktop price is a special upgrade promotion.

stevespr1, just to be clear, the Object Desktop deal isn't for Object Dock. It's for upgrading to Object Desktop, a combo of several Stardock programs.  I don't think Object Dock is included with Object Desktop.

Look here to see what you get.

https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/

But as Island Dog says, the $19.99 deal is to UPGRADE to Object Desktop from another program.

Where was the $19.99 special upgrade promotion? I just renewed for $29.99 on the 31st.

edit: I think Jim just answered that for me.

Al, it's for an upgrade, NOT a renewal.

I know that now you just added that to your post

I have two items in Object Desktop: Fences and Deskscapes. It's $35 for me to upgrade. Do I have to own a third program or something? I was going to buy WindowBlinds during the sale, but I want IconPackager and Theme Manager and everything that comes with OD too. If I buy WB for $5, will that save me $15 to upgrade? (netting $10 of course; I know math ;P )

Do as you wish. However if you upgrade to Object Desktop you get all updates and new revisions for a full year. You also mat want to use other programs offered with the subscription. With that said you do what is best for you. I'm only pointing something out.

Right, I said I wanted to upgrade to Object Desktop. I'm just trying to find the cheapest way to do it. Please reread my original post. :)

No.

Ah, thanks. How did he get an upgrade offer for $20, I wonder...?

Have you seen OD go on sale ever? I've been watching it the last year, and this is first StarDock discount I've ever seen. But I guess nothing will beat the 30% discount—unless that will stack with the sale price...

That was 2 weeks ago. It was a SPECIAL upgrade promotion. I cannot say if it is still active.  The normal upgrade price is higher.

That explains it. Too bad Stardock didn't tell me about that two weeks ago. I've been subscribed for a year and all they send me is weekly ads for full-price software that I already knew existed...

Do you know if the promotion is offered frequently? I'd be willing to wait a couple months to save $15, but if we're talking a year or two...

I can't say. But I can say that if you keep an eye on these forums, like most of us do, you'll catch the sales when they are active.

As the original post says, this particular "offer" was offered by another site. These things are usually caught by our forum regulars, and could be had at that time, IF you keep track of the forums.

This is one of the purposes of the forums.  Amongst many other benefits of being here, and keeping track.  ;)

This forum or the WinCustomize forum? Is there a particular subforum I could get an RSS feed to or something?

Thanks by the way.

Mainly the WinCustomize forums, if you're watching for deals on skinning products. Stardock forums too, I guess, but you'll see gaming deals there as well.

I did some Googling and found a coupon here that works and discounts it to $20. Pretty sure it requires you owning something else in OD, though it might work without it.

Weboh, I am paid up for a few years. I stay paid up a few years ahead.

But I followed the link, for curiosity, and it detects that I am in the USA, and directs me to Stardock.com.

Not sure the retailmenot is a legit "coupon", but apparently it only works outside the USA.    ;)

I'm in the USA and just tried it and it worked. It's also on the US site. Just the Canadian site was the one that showed up first on Google for some reason.

Nope. When I click "show coupon code" it redirects me to Stardock.com....

Yeah, retailmenot is funny like that. Pressing show coupon code opens Stardock.com in current tab and opens a new one with the coupon code in it. Maybe not if you block popups? Sometimes it copies the coupon code to the clipboard and opens the site.

Anyway, I KNOW it works because I just used it.
