According to my Fences "about", I have version 3.0.3. Is this a different version?

Same update info as the beta from Sept.

Thanks for the update!

One bug that is still present in the new version is that when the desktop background is changed, and then Fences' desktop pages are switched between, the previous desktop background is switched to, while the page is being switched. Once the page-switching has ended, the desktop background switches back to the most-recently set desktop background.

I can make the most-recent background stay persistence while changing desktop pages by playing around with the desktop pages a bit, using quick-hide, switching pages back and forth, bouncing the furthest pages to the left or the right... but it takes some playing with to stop seeing the previous desktop background appear whenever pages are being switched-between.

I really like the new fade-in / out effect for icons when quick-hide is engaged. Though it looks less than fully smooth when it occurs, and would be nice if it were completely smooth. I think it might be nicer if the icons faded in and out a little bit more quickly, too. Maybe the fade-in speed could be an option?

Also, I recommend adding a mouse-click speed configuration to the Quick-Hide settings page in Fences, to set how quickly the mouse needs to be clicked to trigger the quick-hide / reveal. People may wish to make it more difficult to un-hide icons, so that they don't become accidentally unhidden by other people using their PC. Right now, the double-click speed that triggers Quick-Hide is very slow, so general clicking is very capable to trigger Quick-Hide, unintentionally.

Also, to the same effect of not un-hiding hidden icons easily, or by accident (say, by other people using the PC, who don't know that icons are being hidden), a check-box option to disallow page-switching while icons are hidden would be convenient, because right now, dragging the mouse near the edge of the screen while icons are hidden causes all the icons to reappear. I'd like to have hidden icons not be triggered by miscellaneous dragging of the screen.

EDIT: I've now noticed that the Pages options has a checkbox setting that says "if hidden, unhide my desktop icons when switching pages." Unchecking this box keeps all icons hidden if any page-switching action is performed while icons are already hidden.

Overall, though, Fences is an awesome application, and I love its configuration options that enable it to do pretty much anything a person thinks of!

So it is all fine and good that a new version has been released.  But from the release notes it does not address a bug that I have been told is known and has existed for a long time.  I first reported it when I purchased the product earlier this year.

When large excel files are in a fence boundary and are opened and changed and saved, they do not go back into their fence.  They are placed on the desktop outside of a fence.  This is pretty annoying and I hope this gets fixed soon

End of RedneckDude's quote

It's just moved out of beta.

A very useful functionality of the previous version of Fences seems to be gone in this version. With the previous version, if I were to run a program which rearranged the icons on my desktop, but I first used quick-hide to hide all of my icons, the program would not affect icon placement, and everything would be left in its proper place.

With version 3.03, hiding all of my desktop icons using quick-hide before running any such program, such as Unigine Valley, or games that don't launch at my monitor's native resolution, doesn't work to preserve the icon layout, and when I quit any such program, and un-hide all my icons, the icons are all rearranged.

The preservation of icon layout in the previous Fences version was a very useful feature, for me. I hope that it can be restored in another patch.

I can't seem to be able to download the file. It keeps getting deleted by Windows Defender for being a virus.

Category: Trojan

Description: This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker.

Recommended action: Remove this software immediately.

Here are a couple more bugs I've found:

One is only occasionally occurring, and it's that after I've used quick-hide to hide all my desktop icons, and then click-dragged at the edge of the screen to switch pages, the icons all suddenly reappear, but the scrolling animation of page-switching doesn't show, and instead there's an instant switch between desktop pages, and their icons. And this will continue, if I keep switching back and forth between the pages (no scrolling animation will show, but the switching of the icon layout will be instantaneous. I can cause the smooth transition animation to show again properly by using quick-hide to once again hide all the icons, and then using quick-reveal to make them all appear, and then performing the page-switching. This gets the smooth transition animation to work again.

Like I said, that bug only occurs occasionally, and not all the time.

A second bug I'm encountering is that, with multiple fences on a page, and using the roll-up feature for each fence, when I switch pages, the most recent fence which I was viewing, causing it to be rolled down, will appear, during the transition between pages, as being fully opened. And then as soon as the page-switching transition is completed, that fence will appear rolled-up, along with all of the others.

This bug also isn't consistent, and doesn't always appear. But once it does, it tends to be pretty persistent, until something, I don't know what right now, causes it to stop.

Also, I notice that if pages are switched while a fence has not completed its roll-up animation, then each time the page is switched back to that page, that fence will appear in its partially-open form, and then appear normally rolled-up after the page-transition is completed. And if pages are switched back and forth between, that last-accessed fence will, each time, appear during the page-transition as being in its semi rolled-up / open state.

Maybe that behaviour is related to the second bug I mentioned.

****BUG****
-----------------
A bug that has been regularly happening(more than a month, daily) to me is that whenever I open a folder in a portal fence, The text of the folders or documents in that folder are shortened to a 3 or less letter limit followed by "..." while there is more than enough space for the rest of the text. refreshing the portal fence fixes this and makes it display the full text limited by the size of the fence.

This is so annoying as 3 letters isn't much to identify a folder or document... please fix this.

I still cannot get Fences 3.0.3 to work on one of my Windows 10 build 14986 VMs. It will not allow new fences, nor will it open the Fences settings. The Uninstaller hung. So I used Revo Uninstaller and cancelled out of the uninstaller.

After a reboot and reinstall, I still not create a fence. I click the create fence prompt, and it just disappears. and although the initial fence setup screen appeared, I cannot open it again.

It would appear Deskscapes screws up Fences quick hide feature.  All hidden Fences items are visible.

I just recently installed Fences, and noticed anytime I open/close a "hover" tab, or switch between fences, my CPU usage skyrockets.

It doesn't max out, but it jumps dramatically.

Is that a bug, or not a big issue?

I turned off Defender completely. It is achieved by tweaking the registry and Windows accepts that you have turned it off
and will not turn it back on again at any update. (It still downloads the Defender Updates but does not turn defender back on).
That is quite goodm because if you ever DO want to go back to Defender (goodness knows why...I gather from what I have read that
it affects system efficiency with it's constant checking) then you know it will be up-to-date, at least.

Who can rely on Microsoft to be up to date with viruses?
Instead I use my FREE Avast (tremendous program) as well as Superantispyware (a bought a Lifetime Licence for that terrific utility).

To make the changes to the registry, just look at the following links, creates the two "REG" files (download them from the site
is easiest) then run them by simply double-clicking on them (just the "OFF" when is what you want to run first).
If you are worried, perform a "Restore Point" creation first.

Have a look at the following link:   http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5918-windows-defender-turn-off-windows-10-a.html

Best thing I ever did. Defender is best to be avoided.

Cheers

Chris
