Weird grash during game, its interesting, and i seem to have solved it.

I have never encountered a crash like this before....

After adding a few new DLC to my game....

I am playing the game, it suddenly freezes, then suddenly computer restarts by itself!!

When it restarts i notice the wireless router is not present, as in connected but the computer thinks it is not there at all.

I restart, yet still, router is gone!

I unplug router, plug it back in, hello, works fine now!

Playing again, after a while suddenly i get an 'orange screen'. The whole screen is orange - the color of promethium actually.

Nothing works on the computer, not even CNTRL ALT DELETE works.... and i cannot remember ever seeing CNRL ALT DELETE not work in windows 10, so its quite amazing.

Ok so i had to press the reset button, computer restarts, everything is fine except the router is gone once again. Unplug and replug is the only way to fix it.

So now i am very suspicious of my router.... it is a netgear thumdrive router. So i go online and updated the drivers for it. Been playing for days now, no problem,

SOLVED it seems.

But still, i thought it very weird a thumdrive router can have those effects????

Network drivers can do strange things, deep in the OS things, if they go crazy.  The OS programmers have done much to protect themselves, but sometimes it can still get away from them.  A set of drivers tuned to talk to a local thumbdrive router really shouldn't look any different than one talking to an external router, but if they took any shortcuts for "efficiency", that would have possible consequences.  Things like orange screens, a new one on me, are more likely a coincidence of timing and whatever else happened to be going on than any predictable behavior.  Any patterns you think you see are possibly artifacts of the human brain demanding patterns to analyze. This a good reason not to date anyone crazier than you are, you are constantly looking for patterns that aren't really there.

Keeping drivers up to date seems like a bother, but if they have any problems at all, they can do the most unpredictable things.  Again, just like some people you know, and maybe shouldn't date.

I think the orange screen was the game telling me i have my first promethium mine cut scene and it happened to freeze at that moment. That is the random thing but the observable pattern is the router being disabled after each crash - that is a pretty solid observable pattern, and the game has been running wonderfully for days now after updating the driver.

Good example on the dating! hehehehe

I am the kind of person who is more likely to observe patterns, sometimes it is crazy, sometimes it is shockingly accurate..... the trick is learning to tell the difference??? lol

Cool, thanks.... game still running perfectly as it gets more advanced on the map one size larger than gigantic.

Although as it gets more advanced my computer has started making very creepy sounding whirring noises. When i say creepy i mean stand the hairs on the back of your neck 'demonic' creepy!!! And last night i was watching a creepy movie and the whirring noises made it extra creepy!! I mean WOW, i should record my computer sound and sell the sound to Hollywood!!!

That is probably your GPU fan going into overdrive, or the CPU fan kicking it up a notch.

Yea probably the GPU.

But i never heard it making those noises in previous advanced games? The only changes to the system are the new DLC that i added plus updating the wireless drivers.

Its possible previous games were not quite this expansive though..... they always crash before getting this far in, and then i am more inclined to start a new game than reload the saved game several turns behind.

those previous crashes were nothing special like what this thread is about though.... just the standard exiting to the desktop and giving me the send crash report  option, which i always say yes.

So now its not crashing, and the computer is saying "oh gee, looks like i actually have to do some work for a change" wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I am not playing any other hardware intensive games.... i have x2 and x3 which can be power hungry with large fleets, but i have not played it much for a long time since getting my current computer.
