Fences shutting itself off

Just installed latest Win 10 update: Pro Insider Preview Buil 14915.rs_prerelease.160826-1902, and started getting "Fences has detected that Exporer was not closed properly. As a precaution, Fences has been temporarily disabled.  To re-enabel Fences, right click your desktop and choose "Enable Fences".

Doing that works for about 10 seconds.  Did a restart.  Same problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled.  Upgraded to Version 3.  No joy.

HELP Please!!

I'm having exactly the same issue with the latest preview build.

I understand that the preview is pre-release software, and thus not supported, but a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

Unfortunately it looks like a change in the latest insider build of Windows is causing problems for Fences.  I do not know if this is a Fences side issue or a Windows side issue (it is crashing inside Windows code), but I am sure the development team will investigate to see if there is anything they can do.

We would recommend against the use of Windows Insider builds, especially those on the FAST track, unless you have specific need for them and obviously with Alpha OS updates comes with the risk of incompatibility issues like this.  Once it has been investigated I would expect someone to post on the forums with an update.

As this appears to the initial thread about the problem, it would be nice if at least a reference to the solution could be posted here. Especially as following a thread as it is updated is much easier than trying to track the forum.

Thanks in advance.

The dev team is aware and will look into the issue.

Thanks for reporting it.

I wouldn't expect any action before next week (at the earliest).

We love/hate insider builds.  Ya know?

"We love/hate insider builds.  Ya know?" ..... Yes there is always good and bad, but lucky people do test the builds otherwise when this hit the public.. your support lines would have a heart attack.

happy to help if you need any logs or "try this and see what happens"

have fun!

Fences fails to run at startup with a popup message that Windows Explorer shutdown improperly.  Enabling Fences with a right mouse click does not fix.  Reboot and reinstall does not fix.

Are there any solutions or support ?

If you are using an Insider build of Windows there are some issues. Otherwise, please contact support.
