Recently used files with Apps

This is a repost as I have not gotten any solutions yet.

Some of the desktop programs on my Start 10 menu have a right pointer.  Hovering over the program name opens up a list of recently used files for that program.  Others do not.  For example, MS Excel does, but MS Word does not.  Anyone know how to turn on the recently used files feature?  I would particularly like to turn on for Word and PowerPoint.

Does any one have any ideas on this?

I used to have the arrow and drop down of previous files.

Now, none of that shows.

I can't find any settings for that.
