desktop becomes visible with middle click on desktop

I have two issues with Fences:

I use the Fences double click on desktop to hide icons and a couple fences.  The double click works correctly both to hide and reveal the items.

My first issue is that when I middle click on the desktop, all my hidden items reappear.  As if Fences is interpreting the middle click as a double click, but middle clicking again, does not hide them again.  I have to double click to hide the items, but then I can middle click to bring them back.  it shouldn't be doing this with the middle click.

Second issue is trying to load the Fences settings interface.  It takes a long time for the UI to show up, like almost a minute.  I can watch it load in the task manager, then it just sits there not doing much, then there is some CPU activity and the UI will appear.  This last time it took about 42 seconds-ish.

Thanks,

David

I will talk with the devs about this.  Thanks.

Please let support know about the other issue at https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Tickets/Submit if you have not already

Thanks Zubaz.  I will put in a ticket for that.  Appreciate it.

Haven't heard back on my ticket for the slow UI problem....

Any word on the Middle Click Problem?

I received a response on my ticket which advised to use a .bat file to remove Fences.  Did that and then went to Stardock to download and resinstall the most current version of Fences, something like 3.01.

The middle click issue is still there.

The issue of the Fences UI is different in that, when I first tried to bring up the UI, the cursor circle thing spun around for about 3 seconds, disappeared, and then nothing at all happened.

When I tried it again, the UI appeared in about 10 seconds.

I can live with 10 seconds.

Would definitely like to have the middle click thing resolved as I used the middle click to trigger another app. (In my troubleshooting, I had that app completely disabled, so as to eliminate that as a cause.)

Thanks,

David

Interestingly, this is not a bug.  It's the first part of a feature.  The middle click button is used as a way to swipe between pages.  The first step of going somewhere is showing where you are . . thus the unhiding of all fences.  It makes sense, right?

Just tried to load the UI by right clicking on a fence.  Counted 30 seconds and stopped.  As I'm typing this it still hasn't shown up. Task Manager shows two instances of Fences Settings, but no UI. Also, I only called it once. One instance is showing 2.4MB of used memory, the other is showing .5MB of used memory. Just tried invoking the UI from the start menu entry.  Now there are three instances. Two of which are 2.4MB and the third .5MB.

I did an end task on all three, one at a time, then invoked from the start menu. There is one instance in task manager with 2.4MB but no UI.

*update* and OMG!! lol the UI just showed up.  So that was about 10 minutes or more.

The middle click thing... Totally understand what you are saying, but when I release the middle button, all hidden items should return to hiding, yes?  Show me where I am, let me navigate to another page while holding down the middle button; I'll see where I need to stop.  When I release the middle button, all hidden things hide again.  I don't want to see them or have to re-hide them (even though it's just a double click :-)  )

Fences UI is still not visible.

Thanks for the follow up Zubaz.

Let me log a bug.

For the stuck UI, are you running the 3.03 beta?

I believe so. I would love to be able to verify that but I can't get the UI to show up at all now.

Don't know if this is related or not, but when I changed IP packages, Fences operations had ceased. None of my fences were showing up. Ironically, the UI displayed immediately when launched from the start menu, gave me an error stating something to the effect of 'Fences does not appear to be loaded, you may have to reinstall Fences,' but the UI was there.  I unchecked the option to activate Fences and then re-selected, but nothing happened.

I rebooted my computer and Fences was back again, but the UI is not available apparently. I have 5 instances of Fences settings in the Processes section of Task Manager :-)

IP restarts the Explorer process as part of the applying process.  It's normal.  It should, however, come back.

Further, "Fences Settings" should only appear when the config window is open and should only run once at most.

To find the version, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences

Right click on Fences and select Properties

Select Details.

Look for File Version.

I have the 3.03 beta installed.  The UI finally showed up, but it was about 30 minutes after I had invoked it.

I can add a screenshot of the multiple instances of Fences Settings if you wish.  Just checked and had two in Task Manager.

Just FYI, I used a .bat file from Stardock to uninstall Fences completely and then installed the 3.03 beta, so this should be a clean install.  I will be happy to give to you any information you need for resolution.

Again, don't know if this is related, but when I double click on the desktop to hide the icons, there is a 5-ish second delay before the items hide.

It is beyond the scope of a forum post.  Sorry.

Can you post your support case ID?

** additional info (?) ** I just noticed I have 2 instances of Fences in the startup section of Task Manager.  Is that as expected?

Thanks Zubaz

Not normal.  Disable one using teh tab in Task Manager

Zubaz, I did as instructed and disabled one of the entries.

I have a really old program called Startup by Mike Lin which shows from which hives startup programs are called.

There are 2 entries for Fences. One of them is active and in HKLM /Run, the other is in HKCU /Run, also active. So, even though I have disabled one of the startup entries in the Task Manager, there are still two active entries in the registry.  Should I go into the registry and delete one of those keys? If so, which?

Thanks

Zubaz!! You are not going to believe this. I posted about this exact problem 4 years ago and figured out how to stop it. Disable desktop pages.

Not the most elegant solution, but since Win10 has multiple desktops why not.

Heres my reply to that old post:

"AH HA! I just disabled the "Desktop Pages" option and unchecked all the options within that.  The problem has been solved.  I wouldn't have associated Desktop Pages with my problem, but disabling that has solved that problem."
