Keys for older fences products not working

Just downloaded the 3.0 fences update, but can't validate it. Wondering if I have to downgrade to 2.0. I'm not interested in paying for Fences again. 2.0 is just fine, but my login and pass, and my old product keys aren't activating 3.0. What should I do?
Fences 3 is only free if you bought Fences 2 within 90 days of the release of Fences 3. Otherwise Fences 2 users can upgrade to Fences 3 for $5, see the link "Own Fences 2?" at the bottom of this page:

If you want to stay with Fences 2 at this point, you would uninstall Fences 3, reboot, reinstall Fences 2 and activate it. You would probably want to take snapshots and back them up first, if you have them backed up from immediately before you installed Fences 3 that would probably be better.
That is not right. I haven't been able to get Fences 2 to work on Windows 7 yet. I mentioned this earlier, but got no reply. I am now trying Fences 3 and it is doing the exact same thing - can't move icons on screen (had to disable it to do that), and it randomly moves icons to where it thinks they ought to go without my intervention.
So Fences 2 & 3 do NOT work on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. I have tried them on my laptop as well, and I get the same result...they do NOT work properly.
Fences 2 has always worked fine on my Win7 64 bit install. So much so, that I have no interest in upgrading to Fences 3
