Multiplayer matches don't start

Sorry if this has been addressed, but when I try to play Multiplayer, it only starts a match about 10% of the time. My girlfriend and I both have Windows laptops. I invite her via Steam, she accepts, clicks ready, I click start, and I get my loading screen that goes all the way up to "Waiting for Players" while her screen is stuck on "Preparing to Launch" as her status. It stays that way for about 60 seconds then gives me a Win screen as though I just won a match. This happens whether we use public lobbies, private lobbies, whether I send her a Steam invite or whether she joins my public lobby. Anyone else encounter this or a way to resolve it? Thanks!

It is a shame. I wish I could multiplayer in my free time. In ranked, I cannot ever get past waiting for players. Mind you, I don't wait longer than 5 minutes, but it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. Non-ranked, lobby games have worked. But ranked. Never. I have never been able to play a game
