Admittedly the ship paths in galciv2 were handy sometimes! especially handling constructors.

GC2 at least had the option to show ship routes on the minimap - I forget what the option was called, but I found it useful particularly to keep myself from sending more than one colony ship to a planet after resuming a game I'd saved a couple of days before.
