Skin Request

hi all,
while i was installing windows a few years ago on an old computer, i was watching the empire strikes back. the falcon had just landed on the east platform of cloud city, so when the windows setup up asked me for a name for my computer, i thought, "hm, how about 'cloud-city?'". anyway, over the years as i've upgraded computers and OS's, i've sort of stuck with the cloud city theme when naming vaious objects on them. for example, my home LAN is called the Anoat System, my wireless network is called the Anoat System Wireless Network, the "manufacturer" of my computer is the Bespin Mining Guild, my user description is "the administrator of this facility" and my user pic is lando. i've sort of become fond of this whole theme, and was thinking it would be great to have WB skin to go along with it. the art deco look of cloud city lends itself well to a skin, don't you think? it seems right up essorant's alley. i've got zero skinning experience at all. would one of the more experience skin makers or skin companies be willing to do this? maybe at least use it as a starting point for your next skin when you get the itch to create a new one but can't think of a good theme? hmm? WB4 features and a wallpaper would be fine .icons would be great, too, but that may be asking too much. anway, it's just a thought. a good jumping off point for someone that's trying to think of another skin to do. the folks at pixtudio, the skinsfactory, or individuals like essorant, chad ross, and davad70 would be ideal, although that's probably aiming way to high.

ummm,

there are several threads asking basically the same thing. You might want to read those over. Not quite sure you'll like what you read, but...

The best advice I've read was something like 'use this as an incentive to learn how to do this on your own. It takes a little time and patience....'

i'd rather just let the idea germinate in an experienced skinners mind than to try and fool myself into thinking i have even the slightest clue or artistic talent to approach this on my own (or even with the communities guidance!). here's to holding my breath! *cheers!*

Basically, it boils down to how "specific" you want this thing to be. Requests of any sort should be met with a small payment (20-30 dollars.. whether it be on a per hour basis, it's up to the person who makes the graphic design for you), bottom line. If you're going to give specific dos and don'ts on the request, then you're looking at about 50 dollars per hour from the artists who are willing to help you out.

Nothing is free in life is basically what I'm trying to tell you

Agree with elfkura, paying skinners would be smart:
If you are intrestet to pay for it, I'm willing to do it for you.
(I don't charge much, only we skinners are all verry bussy. If we just would take any free job around, we should have any free time left)

If you are intrested contact me: ronmeijer14@hotmail.com

hm, i don't think i could afford to pay anyone by the hour. a flat fee of $50 for a good skin is certainly possible though. oh well, i was hoping it would sort of catch on as a good idea. i wasn't neccessarily thinking it had to be branded as star wars really (to be honest, i'm not a fan of text on skins at all), just sort of cloud city-art deco looking. that way, it could have broad appeal to it. maybe i really should give it a shot myself then.

a theme like that sounds really cool. I think it would take allot of time though. I had a pop up book that had that. IT WAS SO COOL!!!!! I think it is a good idea. It would be a while before anything like that would be made. That is alot of work.

chucky, talk it over with people who are interested. Not everyone is going to charge a per hour rate

charging a hour is not fair, if somebody comes to me, I make the skin, send him a screenshot what have to change or what he dasn't like, and that's it.

well, i gave skin studio a shot last night and well, it just takes too much right-side-of-the-brain type of talent. needles to say, i have none of that.
