Start8 vs Start10

what's the difference?

I was using Start8 on my Windows 8.1 desktop and liked it. I recently upgraded my OS to Windows 10 (free). the Windows free upgrade to Windows10. I did not uninstall Start8 before doing the upgrade. Now, things look pretty much the same with Windows 10 running (Start8) as they did with Windows 8.1. I read in a posting that Start8 does not work with Windows 10. What difference would I see if I uninstall Start8 from Windows 10 now and installed Start10?

Start8 on Windows 10 will have a number of issues such as the search bar overlapping running apps on the taskbar and on the latest version of Windows 10 (which your computer may take 30 days to see as an update) the Universal apps list will be blank and jumplists will no longer work either.

Start10 does not have these issues and also offers additional things such as a new Modern Theme, options to have icons as tiles, options to customise the background of the menu and options to customise the taskbar.

I have Start8 - do I need to buy Start 10?

You do if you wish to use Start10 yes I am afraid.  It also offers many additional features over Start8 as well as supporting Windows 10.

Start8 will function but with significant issues on Windows 10 and I expect more over time.

WindowBlinds 10 is a new version.

Windows 10 being a free upgrade has nothing to do with how WindowBlinds is upgraded in regards to pricing and upgrading.

Windows is free to upgrade... why should I have to pay again for WindowsBlinds...
End of Fiftyfifth's quote

Because Microsoft did not write WindowBlinds?

Microsoft will be giving away Windows 10 for a reason and they will aim to make money long term from this.  Stardock do not receive that money and unfortunately developers, testers, support etc all cost money and money comes from customers...

Also this is for some reason posted in reply to a Start8/10 thread.  Either way the same applies to Start10 from Start8.
