[1.5]Games crash when creating or editing Huge ship in designer

Since  1.5 i made two games aith Altarians. And in both i have the same problem now.
Everytime i try to edit or create a huge design my game hangs and i have to close it, or even restart my pc.

I made a complete reinstall and the problem is still there. I can provide a savegame, so someone else could perhaps test it, if its a local or generell error.
It looks like the games trys to load something to the ram, but isnt able too, cause the ram cylces from nearly zero (2-3 MB) to several hundreds MB all the time, till i quit the process or restart. I still see the design screen, but the ship model is not loaded.

Anyone has an idea what to do, or should i provide something?

Edit my Specs:

I7 4790k
16GB RAM
GTX 980TI
Win10 64Bit

Edit2: Had some more time, when i start one of the new special models witch are not real altarians, i have no problems. And as soon as i open an altarian one, the total ram used goes to 99/100% but the Galciv3 ram drops from 3.5 GB to some MB and starts reloading ram, but cannot.

I have the same crash.  I submitted a trouble ticket.

I have same crash. Ultimately I had the equivalent of BSOD (difference being...nothing on screen but a pop up window) saying netsh.exe was really pissed off and listed 0xc0000142. I have 100% replication of freeze error. I am playing an insanely huge map with custom race using Thalan ships. I have several derivatives of a Construction ship. When I go into designer during an upgrade sweep of my ships it freezes on this item. I even opened the game and went straight to this item to edit it first and the only change was I got a  freeze screen black with faint grey lines tiling the screen. Maybe a memory leak? Like it wants to throw it the designer stuff but all the ass is gone from the memory.

Locks up whole system. A bummer

I did a clean install of video drivers and new installation of Gal Civ III.  I am still getting game crash and system lockup when clicking on huge ship in the ship designer.

I downloaded a bunch of ship designs and when I opened one of them in a new game it crashed. It is a similar issue but mine happned on a smaller hull. It maxed out my ram (all 24gb hahaha) and I had to force a shutdown. Not sure if they are related.

Yeah, I have been having an issue where editing a ship design results in a CTD. Really frustrating. Have a ticket with support, but in a way, glad to hear I'm not the only one having this sort of issue.

Hello everyone,

Please be sure to submit tickets on this issue.

We haven't been able to reproduce the problem internally so any information we can get would be very helpful.

I wanted to chime in and say that I'm having the same issue. Most times when I click on a ship (any ship!) in the designer, it locks up my system. Sometimes, it works... at first I thought it was the custom hulls that I was having a problem with, as I downloaded some from the workshop way back in 1.2 and maybe they were causing crashes, but it's definitely happening with stock hulls as well. Twice today I've opened a saved game, gone immediately to ship designer, and had it lock up my system when I tried to create a new design using a stock hull. I'm going to delete my Steam workshop designs from the game's library, but don't expect that to solve the issue...

I'm also having a different issue that may be related. In a game the other day, in ship designer I was actually unable to select any stock hull designs. I had not clicked 'obsolete' on any of them. I was playing as a custom race using Terran ships. The Steam workshop designs were available to me, however, and I successfully used those when clicking on them didn't lock up my system.

I'll submit a ticket, but I'm not sure I've got any useful information to add. The designer worked fine when I last played the game a lot (under 1.2 or maybe 1.3). A little laggy, but it didn't lock up my system.

Ah, one more thing that may help track this down.

Even when the designer would successfully load a ship, it would be extremely laggy. I'm talking I can walk away from the computer to refill my water bottle (~30 seconds) and sometimes it hasn't finished loading the design by the time I come back.

It seems that I can login here but cannot login with my e-mail account to your support page

https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit

But I can definitely confirm this error for the current (1.51) gog version of GalCiv3!

I have reloaded a current save game (immense galaxy map size, around turn 455) and could reproduce the problem any time.

@pshaw: let me know how/where to upload my save game and I will send it to you....

Forum and support accounts are separate. You also don't need one to submit a ticket, simply select Games>GalCiv III and click Next. There you can attach files.

@Rhonin_the_wizard,

Thank you for this information! I have now sent them my save game file and hope that they will be able to fix this bug with the next patch...

What is your ticket number?  I want to take a look at this.

Missing this thread, I started a similar one a few days ago and had a couple more replies with the same problem.

Clearly, there is a rogue pointer or some sort of memory leak somewhere.

pshaw was asking for ticket numbers. Mine is SFG-322-63211

Cheers,

Jon

I will copy my reply here as well:

I just had a similar problem. I just started a new game with the Yor. Went into the ship designer to make a new ship, selected Yor_Transport_01T template and game locked up. Mouse cursor stuttered for a while then froze as well. Had to switch off computer. Ticket number: #VAZ-533-67328. Saved game and debug.err included in request.

Thanks. Hope this is sorted.

Hey folks,

We found and fixed the problem.  It will be part of our next release.

Any news when the next patch is due? I've reached this point on an epically long game which has literally taken dozens of hours, and I can't really go on til it's fixed, kinda a game breaker for that particular game...
