Skinning methods ...or ... How do you grow a skin?

I'm curious about the methods you use to skin.
For example one thought would be to develop the whole idea for a skin using drawing or a graphics program from a preconceived thought or idea. Another method might be to start with a single graphic image and build on that. Yet another could be just open a basic skin and start messing around in your favorite graphics program till you get something that looks good.
Also, what about designing all or most of the graphic images before even opening SkinStudio vs. making each graphic 1 at a time while building the skin.
What about it? Any skinners want to chime in?

I start with a good size Cat fish and an imported skinning knife. Some start messing around in there graphics program till they hit on something they like and go from there. I don't think I would approach this like I was designing a building. Any way you do it would be fine.

WOM!

mmm, I hand draw everything, actually, I go a bit to far with it too. All you need really is a sketch for a layout on paper, you can actualy break graph paper down into pixil groups so you have a good idea of exactly where what goes on the screen by pixel count...

probably over kill though

There are a couple of good books on GUI design and theroy...

overkill? I've found myself doing some graphics pixel by pixel when I 'just couldn't quite get it right'

Trout line isn't fishing. Thats cheating or commercialism. Rod and reel.

Hey I learned to trotline (I know, I called it trotline. That's what everybody down here calls it) before I ever started using a rod and reel. It's pretty common here or at least was back when I was growing up. Maybe it's a Texas thang

They call it that here too. Like I said thats cheating unless your doing it to feed your family.

down here in FL they call em Sabiecie rigs, use them for white bait, little gold hooks no bait neede to catch bait. Personally I throw a 12 foot net, well I used to throw a 12 foot net, now I watch Everyone used to sit around and wait for my brother and I to fill the bait barrels because we grew up throwing pancakes.. WHich was ok, but got upsetting when you went to get bait 5 hours into fishing only to find out someone or a couple had been freeing bait all night not hooking em up right.... "Oh you need to throw the net again, both barrels are empty and the down buckets are getting there fast"

grrrr

LMAO, it went from asking for a method of creating graphics to something about the correct way to fish. I think lack of sleep or lack of caffine messes with the mind a little

~it's a multi hook hand line?~
It's usually fixed on one end near the bank with the other end in deep water anchored a couple of feet off the bottom. Usually about 50 hooks baited with live bait, catalpa worms are good; so are goggle eye, at night. You run it the next morning and if the cats are feeding and some troller didn't hook your line and cut it, you load em up and you got fish for dinner.

vizo, I hope that wasn't for me. I'am here in Texas. Know all about them. I'd be boating up a stream and my motor would get caught up on them. Needless to say they got cut.

WOM, no not at all. If your motor got one, somebody didn't know how to set a line properly. It wouldn't catch too much being that near the surface. I'd say they hopefully learned a lesson.

I asked "The Master" how he did it,(Treetog) and I follow his teachings......
I make a basic frame with buttons and scrollbars, slice it up while still in photoshop and then throw that into skinstudio. I then make the rest of the graphics for the skin on the fly, so to speak.
If it's good enough for "The Master", it's good enough for me!

Oh and fishing its a passion, I wade fish late at night and into the morning and even if I don't catch anything, it is the best night of my life everytime

Stars clear and bright, shooting stars and such of all colors, Cruise ships with all their lights on miles off shore, Porpise playing, Manatees lunking around munching on sea grasses and slipping up near you to hang out for a while and just watch. clouds blowing by at 30 knots on a mid air current shifting colors as they pass over lights and under the moon...

anway...

IPlural: DesktopX is a different animal altogether. I find it easier to make a DX theme than a WB skin, but the hard part is coming up with a good design for a DX theme in the first place!

Kind of thought so, but was holding out with a smidg of hope it would be the same

My method of skinning is to use gas mark 5, and remember to baste the skin before putting it in.
