At what difficulty level does the AI uses your designed ships?

Is it only for the last difficulty level?  And how does it work exactly, does the AI use the ships I previously designed in another game, the ones I design in the current game, both? (assuming it has the tech&resources, of course).

And btw, what are the bonuses the AI has above Genius?

It's a bit boring to play at genius because the AI never invades, but Godlike is too difficult for me.  By the time I have finished the colonization rush the Alterians have ships with 800 beam damage where I can barely mount 40 shields on mine.  I'm just wondering what I would face at an intermediate level.

The AI definitely uses them on normal, provided it has the right techs. It probably uses them on any level. However, If you've been grabbing all the mass expansion techs and filling hulls, then in practice the AI will almost never be able to use your designs.

ah, that's got to be it :)  Thank you :)

It also will only use your ships if it sees them as better than its own. Not sure how it decides that, but I see it using my sensor ships all the time.
