Total crash-black window of death

I am using Microsoft pro 3 with windows 10 pro. The last program I installed about 2 weeks ago was Start 10. It rebooted nicely after the installation,, as it was supposed to. Then I started having boot problems. The pc would not. I would have to do hard resets every several times I would boot up, to get the pc to boot. Then 2 days ago, nothing would get me past the SURFACE logo. Could not even boot from a recovery flash drive. Microsoft is sending me a new Pro 3. My question is could start 10 have anything to do with the total crash?

Thanks,

Howiemb

If you are not even getting past the surface logo and will not boot from a recovery drive it sounds like you have suffered some sort of hardware failure.  Start10 will not be responsible for that.

Thank you. That is sort of what I thought about a hardware failure. Just wanted to be sure before installing Start10 on the new Surface Pro 3.

I have had/am having similar problems.  Two problems, in fact.  In the first, Windows 10 Pro would crash as if the screen ti,med out and powered down.  Computer would remain on, but there woul;d be no way to get display up again.  I would have to do a hard reset.  After lots of trial and error, it seems that the Start10 service is the culprit.  Since it has been disabled, I have not suffered any more crashes of this type.

I have also had the problems described above when stating Windows.  Many times startup would freeze at the Windows logo.  After doing hard resets for several times, I am able eventually to get a complete startup.  It's hard to see how Start10 could cause this, but it is interesting that Howiemb and I have had such similar experiences.

Interesting circumstances. The only conclusion that I have arrived at is that my ssd hard drive did a total crash. I could not even get to the MBR. I'll never know of course because the unit went back to Microsoft. And they may just trash it. Or tear it apart for parts to fix other units. As far as the new machine and Stardock 1.07, all is well. Hope these comments don't jinx me.
