RAM usage

Just FYI for those who want to know how much RAM to have.

In an Immense map with 29 races I use 60% of my 16.

Other info I use an i7 with a Radeon 7970m.

At the very beginning or after round 500?

What is the loading time on that map with 29 races for each turn after let's say round 500?

Also what Windows you use?

How much RAM usage and loading time you have with 60 races on insane after move 500?

from the start

windows 7

startup takes a while

turns are fast but slowly take more time. in the past could look at 10-15 seconds to process a turn by turn 352.

Does the Ram usage change at turn 352?

Ridiculously specific question is ridiculously specific.

The changes in RAM usage are gradual and entirely depend on what's happening in the game. There's not a piece of code which tell the game to suddenly crank up RAM consumption on turn 352 :) The biggest influencing factors on turn time are the number of planets (early on) and the number of ships (later); and these two variables are determined by a bewildering array of possible outcomes.

Forester's post is useful because he points out that just by creating the map and getting to the start, he's using up 60% of his 16 gig of RAM. He can't really say anything specific beyond that point, though, and the further into the game he gets the more irrelevant his results become. The turn time at turn 352 is automatically anecdotal - in his next game, it might take 400 turns before there's enough stuff going on to reach the same slowdown; in the game after, it may be 200.

When the turns were in the 350 range, had the memory usage changed from the start?  If so, do you know approximately how much?

Not in previous games. This game was at 352.

doing a new one only at 61 but seems to be going the same way.

In short I am out to emphasize to people that 8 gigs RAM may be OK but 16 is better.
