Skip Carrier Tech

Hi

 

For me the absolute game killer is the OPness of Carriers... All you have to build is Carriers and even AI builds only Carriers..... can someone tell me how to skip or disable or carrier tech? I know where the files are... what do I have to change?

You have trouble with AI carriers? Really? 

Anyways, just delete the carrier tech path (<InternalName>GenericCarrierTech</InternalName>) in Techdefs.xml or change the prereq to something impossible. No guarantees what it will do to the AI though for better or worse.

Two ways:
1) Disable the technologies in each race's tech tree and reconnect the branch
2) Disable the carrier components

To disable the carrier components, you have to copy the ShipComponentDefs.xml file, which will entirely override the original, which will ignore future updates. Then search for the following components:
InterceptorCarrierModule
AssaultCarrierModule
EscortCarrierModule 

Either delete them, or make them unavailable with the following prerequisite:

  4. &lt;Unavailable&gt;true&lt;/Unavailable&gt;
  5. &lt;/Prerequ&gt;

Simplest of all answers - Just don't build them! unless your complaint is they make the enemy AI to overpowered?

Exactly what i do.  Are C's powerful? You bet.  Can you beat the AI on god like without them?  you bet, i do it all the time.  Is it more of a challenge? You bet, that's why i do it |-)

Yea, they are overpowered. I have no problem to deal with AI using carriers, but it just makes no sense to build other ships and even the dumb AI understands this. Its like its completely senseless to research weapons and use them. Thats why I dont like them.
