Named Stars

Hello,

I named my star months ago before the deadline and received an email confirmation of it from Stardock that it was approved. Though I haven't seen my star name in any of my games, I would like to have visual confirmation of it in the game. As an Elite Founder, I understand some credits are supposed to show up in the game. Can these credits only be viewed at the conclusion of a game with the traditional credits? I would like to see the visual confirmation of my star name within the game. Since I haven't seen it in-game, I would like to access these credits that contain my star name. It would be helpful if this was a link either at the main game startup window or as a link within one of these buttons on the main game startup window. Does anyone know where or if it is possible to confirm the star name?

Thanks for any help you have to offer.

Damon

The credits at the end of game just includes your name (maybe it's your user name, I can't recall), not your star name.

The star names can be viewed in the xml files and they used to be listed in the founders locker. Assuming it was not something like Hitler's Star or My F---ing Star it should be there.

The file you are probably looking for is "StarNamesText.xml" under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\data\English\Text

I can't remember what name I submitted either...

Thanks for the information, but my submitted and approved star name is NOT in the list!! I'm contacting Stardock support. I paid for it to be in game and it should be there.

Right around the initial release, on the 'Dev Stream,' Paul Boyer displayed all the pages of the star names.  There were about 25-40 pages of star names (not in alphabetical order).  You could replay that Dev Stream and pause the stream on each new page of star names and look for yours.  That's how I found mine.

My star name was "Vaydra".

Triple checked the xml file. You are correct there is indeed no Vaydra on the list. I even checked for various misspellings, no dice.

@Ambermonk

Do you remember the specific video that the star names was presented? I've viewed a couple around the release date of May 14th, but can't locate it yet. Each video is quite long, were the lists presented at the beginning, ending, mid way through the video?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Christian. That's what I thought. How did someone at Stardock screw the star names up so badly?? Many people are missing their prior approved star names.

Stardock,

Did you keep a backup copy of your original approval lists??

I still have the original email I received from Stardock back in August 2014 proving they approved my star name. Like everyone else, that approval email doesn't contain the star name you chose. However, I do remember my star name and I would very much like it added to the game.

I've already contacted Stardock support, but have not heard from anyone at Stardock yet.

I haven't seen it for myself, but someone found my star Wishupona...

I actually advocated for each Founder being able to start with their Named Star as their home system. Obviously that didn't meet with grand approval in Stardock as that hasn't been implemented. To be fair, it does sound quite nit-picky and probably a pain to code.

Under what circumstances does the Credits Screen show up? I've lost several sandbox games, one or two campaigns and no Credits Screen...

Just wanna see my name in lights...:p

The credits screen is available by clicking the logo in the lower left corner of the main menu screen.

I assume I'm in there somewhere. Didn't realize there were so many of us! :D

End of wuphonsreach's quote

Can we change the star names on that list and take out the stupid named stars with out messing up MP with someone who has not changed their star name list?

Regarding founder credits, please see this thread: https://forums.galciv3.com/465310/page/1/#3549649. In particular, note reply #5 where forceinfinity notes the values that scroll through ending credits are located: "$DRIVELETTER$:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\data\English\Text. The credits show up in CreditsSequenceText.xml." It was impossible for me to read my name in-game due to the fast-scrolling credits, but I was able to confirm quickly with a quick search of the text file.

Regarding star names, I do recall SD at one point mentioned they removed names that did not meet standards which included potential IP conflicts. I have no idea if that is what happened here or if it was some kind of mistake. Hopefully, SD will get to the bottom of it for you.

No way is it any violation of any kind. The name I chose, it may sound cheesy to some, was my wife's name, Vaydra. There is no IP conflicts or even potential IP conflicts with my wife's name. I have reported that was my chosen and approved star name to Stardock support also.

AILanMandragoran,

I looked in that XML file and my name is not in listed there either. And I looked for my screen name "damonlundy". Nothing there, even though I am an elite founder! I am getting really pissed now!

Hi, understandable. I recommend opening a ticket because that is exactly what I would do given the same circumstances. Good luck!

Mistakes happen, Stardock devs are error prone humans too. Take a breath and submit a report.

I already did.
