Cannot progress after all techs researched (and no research victory enabled)

So I played a strange game where I was trying to basically make the AI opponent make massive armies for me to fight for fun.  It took so long I ended up researching the entire tree.  The game was set to only allow conquest victories.

Anyway, once I had researched all techs, I cannot end my turn, because it asks for research.  (I think maybe there is a way to force the end of a turn, right?)

At any rate, it seems that finishing available research should make it so the game doesn't require you to research to end turn.

(I should add, I mean this should be something that players should be able to do without use of the debug console, since many players don't really know how to do that.  Perhaps an option regarding end of turns would be useful to such players)

I'd love to get this save from you. If you could PM it to me or open a ticket with support I will check it out.

We do have code in to deal with this. The only cases I have seen this problem since that fix (which was months ago) was when the tech tree has unreachable branches. In which case the game thinks you have techs left to research, so it still shows the research button, but you can't actually select anything.

Derek,

Alas, i had debuged "turn" and finished the game and the autosave and previous-autosave were both after the stuck point.

I will see if I can quickly get another one up to this point (my making a fraction have 5000% research :p  I'll email it to you.

If there is code to deal with this issue, perhaps it does not account for specializations?  If the code is older than the switch to mutually exclusive specializations, then perhaps the problem is there.

You may be right (about specializations). That's what I thought it was a week ago when we saw an issue of this, but it was the unreachable techs instead.

Speaking of which if you game started before 1.01 it might be the same issue.

You might check, if you haven't already, whether there are some techs that appear in the tree view that don't show up in the list view. There's an issue with some of the tech trees where that happens, and the game might realize that there are additional techs to research that you haven't seen if you only use the list view.

I ran another game and fast tracked all the research.  (under version 1.02) and I could not replicate the problem.

If it comes up again, I'll send a savegame to Derek.

I will have to try this in v1.02 when I can play at my resolution.

I was able to reproduce this in v1.00 and v1.01, being cheaty of course! Wanted to Steamroll the galaxy from the start, had research victory turned off, researched everything then it wouldnt let me continue as it wanted me to chose a research item... when there was nothing to research! (Single Player of course... using the largest galaxy)

If this happens, just set your Global research to zero. Then you can advance the turn. The game waits for "unfinished" business, but if stop reasearching it solves the issue.

OK.

I made a long detailed post about this issue and the server ate it, not gonna type it all again.

Here's the save

Workaround doesn't work since I generate research even with 0%.

EDIT: After finding that I can change victory conditions while playing I activated tech victory. I instantly won but still can't end my turn.

EDIT2: Now I can, strange...

EDIT3: Well I could end it twice, then got 3 techs and now can't end it anymore. I guess somethings seriously fucked up in that save. :(

Also have a save with this issue if the devs want it...

You might want to check the tech TREE view if there are any techs that are still unresearched. There was a bug in earlier versions where some techs were defined in the wrong order in the tech tree definitions and that caused them to not show up in the other research screen.

This does appear to be a case of the bug TMPhoenix mentioned.  Load your save game, and look towards the bottom of the Engineering tech tree.  Two of the branches off of Logistical Optimization are completely unresearched. Even though they do not show up in the default list view, you can select them in the tree view to complete your research.

Yeah, that worked for me too.

Don't know if it pops up later again but for now I have found a bunch of tech in the tree I hadn't researched and was able to continue the game.

Thx TMPhoenix :)

If you know the names of the techs you should make a ticket with the names and a description of the problem. It is an easy fix (and it could actually easily be checked programmatically).

Yep that sorted it for me too, also thinking back i think it was a case of trading of the later techs leaving one piddly little tech unresearched. Specifically the weapon specialisation tech.
