Multiplayer

Disappointment

Hey Guys,

I'm generally a fan of the game series, I am also a hardcore MP gamer - focusing on strategy games of all sorts. I was very excited about GC3 getting MP support, which probably accounts for something of my disappointment. Simply stated: the multiplayer is horrible! No proper configuration (turn timer, transparent galaxy configurations, password lock on games and so forth) and the "community" is a. very very small, and b. composed of jerks. Unless MP will undergo a serious overhaul I don't think I will return to this game anytime soon, which is a real shame.

Hi. Love the series, and also love hardcore strategy multiplayer.

I was skeptical to the lack of simultaneous turns, but must say the turn by turn system works nicely, at least up to 4-6 players (the rest can be AIs, and the AI actually works for MP in this game and is getting better unlike Civ5 Vanilla at least). Will give Stardock credit for implementing a system where you can do whatever you like during the wait times, included the ship designer. Light years better then how Civ5 implemented turn by turn gameplay in MP.

But I agree with you that there are some lackings; a turn timer a la Civ 5 with longer and longer turn time limits the longer out in the game you are, and no turn time limit at the first turn (for setting up) would be nice indeed. Might come longer down the road. Rome wasn't built in one day. ;)

NB! We really need an own dedicated multiplayer forum category to discuss and plan out for longer games (over many days) a la the Europa Universalis 4 forums. Stardock; this you can implement easely at once. :)

I've played MP with a couple of friends and 56 other npc races in the game and it works well and fast without the simultaneous turns. Although I would not mind it being an option.

I do agree that the MP is missing some basic elements that should be in any MP game such has password lock on games etc.  But I'm hoping the devs will address this soon.

Now as far as "Community" goes I don't MP with the community I only MP with friends so this aspect is something I care little about. It has been my experience that most MP 'communities are made up of jerks anyway. Now the only MP Communities that I do like are the ones for shooters and MMO, because I like to kill jerks in these games :)

Personally for me its a huge issue that there is not simultaneous turns.  I have a few friends who are saying they wont buy the game until it gets it.

Well for me a community is important, really is the only way to get dome really got players. I agree that simultanous turns are the biggest problem,  also need a turn timer and to be able to edit the game description.
