change the compatibility with the windows setup to windows 8 or 8.1 itll work in 10 beta then fine.

note:because 8 and 10 are vastly different it will not work as you expect.some things can not be skinned by windowblinds as there was no support for them in 10.itll work but only halfway.also its wise to use start10 with this as thats what gives windowblinds a button otherwise itll be a blank space where the windows icon was.hope this helps

Well, it's 18th July, and reports are going the rounds that Windows 10 now have released Windows 10 to manufacturing (RTM).

Other companies whose software I use have mentioned in their newsletters that they've been actively testing their products against Windows 10, but Stardock has unfortunately remained steadfastly mute on this matter. For example, One example is TechSmith (makers of Snagit, Camtasia Studio, etc) who said in their 15th July newsletter:

Windows 10 is Coming Soon and TechSmith is Here to Help

To help make the transition to Windows 10 smoother, TechSmith has been working closely with Microsoft to make sure our offerings work with the new Windows.

The most recent versions of Snagit, Camtasia, and our latest app, TechSmith Smart Player for Office, will be ready to use with Windows 10 right from the start.

Just like WindowBlinds does, Snagit has to get "under the covers" of Windows UI to do its thing, so it's a pity that Stardock hasn't been as proactive. (From my perspective as someone who has been in the software development/marketing industry for 45+ years, and has high expectations.)

Software has not been around for 45 years.  The only 'software' for computers around that long ago were the cardboard punch-cards....yes, I used those too back then...;)

SnagIt has nothing to 'get under'.  It is a simple screen capture program for those who cannot find the 'Print Screen' key on their keyboard.  It is not in any way similar to Windowblinds. [other than both being called 'software'].

Development for Windowblinds for an ever-changing OS Shell [like 10] is akin to having a tailored suit made....

...except every other day...after the 'fitting' the customer calls to say....'put on 30 pounds.....took off 20....lost a leg...." ...etc. ;)

There are programs designed back in the days of Win 98 that will work happily in Win 10, just as they do now in 8.1 ....8....7 etc.

But they too are NOT Windowblinds/shell enhancements ...;)

Okay, Windows 10 has now been shipped, and it would be nice to get some indication from Stardock as to when we might see a beta version that we can test with Win10. Surely that's not too much to ask for?

You can install Windowblinds 8.12 on the final release (July 29,2015) of Windows 10, by using the compatibility mode.  I suggest letting Windows 10 choose the compatibility settings.  I have been using it pretty much ever since the 29th.  It does do weird things with the programs on the task bar, but it is functional.  There is an up and down arrow to the far right of the task bar, which allows you to get to the other running programs, that aren't immediately visible. I use a dual monitor setup, so I don't know how that fits into the mix.  Finding the right skin to go with Windows 10 is more of a challenge.  Some work better than others, but that has been the case since the beginning of Windowblinds.  Depending on the skin, the roll up/roll down works.  That is one of the things I just couldn't "have some patience" on.

For me, I chose not to install the Windowblinds editor.  I'm playing with enough unknown variables without juggling live grenades.  I realize that the "company line" is that Windowblinds 8 should not be installed on Windowblinds 10.  So I realize that any risk are entirely my own fault.  So I come here not to complain about anything, but to share the working (to some degree) solution that I chose.  I also am addressing the specific topic of this thread, that Windowblinds 8, will not install on Windows 10.  I have never been much on patience, and Stardock's definition of soon, didn't fit my timeline.

Any progress report, Jafo and/or other Stardock staff?

I'm off to the great US of A in a few days....and will be at Stardock HQ next week....and the plan is to catch up with the Guru behind Windowblinds.....threaten him with a pointy stick [or a beer] and see if I can't get the 'low down' on Thai-Ming ....;)

I rolled back to Windows 8.1 because I didn't like the way Windowblinds was deploying. In particular, the window backgrounds were distorted. Between that and all the gentle persuasion to give over my personal data, I decided I didn't dislike Windows 8.1 nearly as much as I thought I did. When Windowblinds becomes available for 10, I'll think more seriously about giving in, but I'm sure not in any rush.

With all due respect, I love Stardock products as much as the next guy. My subscription to ObjectDesktop stays 3 years into the future.

But there is no way I'd base my choice of operating systems on the compatibility of a Stardock product.

You must be a true stardockian.

My primary Windows desktop will not be upgraded to Windows 10 until there's an official release of WindowBlinds for it. I'm not a "Stardockian" but I can NOT stand looking at flat window dressings all day long.

I agree. What I hate even more is how most programmers are competing with the flat style. A lot of my favorite software now have their looks ruined. Anyway, it looks like that WindowsBlinds is on its way. On the bottom of the page, it says that Windows 10 support is coming soon. I too will be all over this. The customization in Windows 10 is a joke.
