Map sizes for multiplayer

I know this has probably been asked to death but I could not find any hits for map sizes when I searched. Anyway

 

So now that the game is out and I finished the campaign to get some training I called up my buddy's to start our 1st multiplayer game, and we where horrified to see that huge was the largest map available in multiplayer and I am here asking why this is the case. I am hopeful that insane maps will make it into MP as the tool tip says they are not "yet" available. 

 

Has there been any word on when the larger maps will be for MP? This is just frustrating as I play with about 8 people and even a so called "huge" map has us almost all within no tech life support range of each other and we had been hoping for the "largest maps of any 4X game" as we had seen promoted during the games building. We had even gone so far as making sure each of us had 32 gig or more of RAM on each computer to make sure we could play on the largest maps. I'm sure someone at newegg was laughing when they had seen a order for several hundred gigs of ram being shipped to one house.

MP is still something of a crash-laden experience.  The first 50 turns or so tend to be okay but things get increasingly worse from thereon in.  If keeping the map size down reduces the number of crashes then I'm all for it.  Mined ewe, I've still not made it past turn 100 in a MP game where the number of crashes doesn't become prohibitively frequent.

Just checking to see if anyone knows is there is any new info on when / IF insane maps will make it to MP?
