Ship designer - use of templates

As an old GC II veteran, I immediately went for the ship designer. Still as fun and useful as ever :) . I made a design, saved it and checked "use as template" - which is what i did in GC2 to get my own designs to show up in future games too. The ship was saved and I couldn't find it again anywhere, I couldn't create ships from that template. Can anyone help me out here?

Then I thought, I'll look it up in the manual... but couldn't find a manual either - i see several user made ones on steam though, is that the place I should be looking?

That is weird.  It should show up with the hull size templates when you click new design.  Check if the file exists.  You should be able to find it in Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Designs.  If you can't see any files with the name you gave your ship that means for some reason it didn't save the design.

As for the manual, you can find it on the Steam store page if you scroll down.  It's on the right and unless they fixed it there are two links to the manual, the top one goes to the pdf manual, the second link goes to the official wiki.
