Resource Management

So I just picked this up, I had been holding off as long as possible because I loved GC2 but at the same time I wanted to play a close to finished product (Funny thing is even in beta right now it feels more polished than a lot of games releasing these days)

 

So far one thing I either don't understand or am just doing it wrong or it gets better late game. Resources. To build any ship that can actually do something in combat I need a variety of different resources. I don't mind this, it forces you to really think about how you are structuring your fleets, but I feel it is just a bit too stringent. I think it the base amount per was 2, and it double with each upgrade it would be better.

 

Then again if this is balanced better late game let me know right now I am about 1/3 of the way through the tech tree. (In early age of war)
