Custom Factions

Question and a Suggestion

1.  I think it would be handy if we had a pinned thread containing custom factions.  The contest winners and the honorable mentions might kick it off.    The thread's first entry would describe how to post them (include readme with instructions  for installlation, for example).   I have 25 alien factions in my current game but I  need MORE!!!!

2.  I can make factions, but one thing I don't know how to do is a problem.    Suppose I find a neat picture suitable for profile or portrait, and say it has a  white or gray or whatever background.   Could some kind person tell me how to make the background transparent so that I can use other backgrounds --- solid while doesn't look so good, lol.

Comments or help appreciated!

Since the file is most likely lacking multiple layers (its all one image) the only way I know is to manually delete the background image, and then utilize blue commands to smooth the edges of your character.

Another trick, is if your image is big enough, just resize/crop the image to 1920 by 1080 and use the whole thing. The whole image will simply overlap your chosen background image.

You could use a "Magic Wand" tool - most advanced image editors have this. Try paint.net or GIMP if you want a good free one, but Photoshop should also have it.

Using the Magic Wand, it can select all of a colour (eg, the white or gray background), and then you can just press Delete, and it will make it transparent.

In my submission for the contest I used a rubrik's cube as a synthetic creature, lol.    It was a cube on a white background, and I made it ok, but the edges looked bad.   I didn't solve the puzzle... :|
