Beta 6 CTD when hitting create galaxy...not playable

Was so pumped for this...went into making a new game...selecting options..hit create...hear music glitch...boom CTD.  WTF?  Ok...so i then disable all my created races and just go with basic ones...same...boom...hear music glitch and boom CTD.  Im actually at a loss...all thru alpha and up til this...no problems whatsoever.  Looking at the forums I see noone else having this issue and actually im not even sure what to do...

I see a debug.err file in my games folder for GC 3, but I dont see anyway to attach it here...LOL so funny.  I hardly ever have any problems and now I dont even know what to do since I have a big one.

My suggestion would be to go to your documents\my games\galciv3 and remove/change name of the various ship design stuff.  We've been trying hard not to break ship compatiblity but I ran into the same issue due to my ship designs.

I would also recommend rebooting your computer just in case you haven't already and something got mucked up with the install process and then try again. Can't hurt.

Ok thanks...ill give it a shot!

Please let us know if it resolves if for you.

Deleted out my ships...CTD...REbooted the computer and started new game...it went longer before crashing but boom...CTD again...

I guess I could try just uninstalling it from Steam and then re-downloading it all again...unless of course you would rather have some file first...just let me know.

Please submit the crash info to support. Or, if it is easier for you feel free to PM it to me and I will have a developer check it out.

You may want to "Verify the integrity of the game cache" for the game in the steam client to make sure everything downloaded correctly.

Just finished the verify integrity...found 4 files...and it DL'd them, but still CTD...im thinking those 4 files werent really anything.

Ill try and get that debug.err file and the other(which I noticed had the same time stamp as the debug) and send them to you.

Can you send me a dump file?

It would be located here:

c:\programdata\galciv3 there should be a .zip file (several in fact). A couple of them from today would help us nail down what's going on over there.

wow....found lots of them...how would i send them to you?  Sorry for being a noob, but ive had so few problems I dont actually know how to send them...I dont see an attach feature to use.

Added the most recent dump file and a zip to the ticket I created for this thru the SD site.  If you need anything else just let me know...guess ill have to go play ESO or something til we figure out what is going on.

Thanks!

Personally I use Dropbox and just create public links.  Only need the ones from today (the zip files).  It's usually shocking how fast this stuff can get fixed nowadays.

In the old days, I'd have to put beeps and such in the code and try to find out the issue.  But now, your dump file we can load up and it'll actually recreate what was happening when it crashed, it's insane.

These were my first 2 crashes today and my last 2.  HOpe they help  and thanks so much for working on this!

Perfect, we are checking them out now.

ps. giving out your cell phone to Stardock employees seems sketchy... ;)

It is crashing because it is looking for a tech specialization in the Terran Engineering tree that doesn't exist.

No idea why a tech would be missing in your version, it works fine here. And its the type of issue that should blow up immediately for anyone playing as Terran (which is most people).

The only thing we can think of that can cause this is if you have some local mod or custom faciton info that is pointing to a tech def that doesn't exist anymore.  To test for that please try these 2 things:

1. Disable mods in your game options, restart gc3 and then see if you still get the crash.

if that doesn't work:

2. Renaming your ..\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3 directory to GalCiv.old and then restart GalCiv. The game will recreate the directories, all of your prefs will be reset and it will clear out any local content you have.

Please let us know if either of these things fixes the issue for you.

Boom...there ya go...disable mods...worked...but I dont even know how it got enabled haha...I wasnt even using any that im aware of, but it was checked...OH well..working now!  Thanks so much again for fixing my game!!  At least this time you didnt have to call me haha!  You guys rock!!

Glad it worked for you! You have something causing problems in your "..\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods" directory. If you ever want to use mods you may want to go nuke that directory before you enable mods.
