Noob Questions about mining and range

Hi

Sorry if these seem stupid questions to you guys .

If i build a mining starbase near a resource say anti matter and its nowhere near one of my planets do i have to build a ship to transport it to one of my planets or does just building the starbase and modules needed automatically add the rss to my manufacturing capability?

Also is someting similar needed for Asteroids.

When i am at the edge of my range with a ship and upgrade my range tech with +10 for example .Should this increas my range or does it just mean i have unlocked a new component that i can build on new ships which will increase range?

Can i build a starbase near my borders and will this increase my range?

Sorry if these seem stupid questions .I played quite a bit of Gal Civ 2 but this is taking more getting used to than i imagined lol.

Thanks

Just the starbase and upgrade it with a mining ring.

Asteroid mining isn't in yet, the devs have said that it will function the same as with resources.

Depends. some unlock new components, while others give a bonus.

Yes.

If I may ask a noob question as well since I'm new to the GalCiv series...what's the point of mining? I can't find anything currently in the game that state any bonuses are received. Durantium, Elerium (sp?), and antimatter all seem to have no purpose. The relics are fantastic, but the resources...? Am I missing the obvious? Thanks in advance.

Currently not much, they are used in special components for ships.

I am not that impressed with the resource mining except for trading with the AI they put a high value on the resources and you can use them effectively for tech trading.

Like you said the relics are very powerful. In a recent game I boosted production and research by 400% with relics. I think the culture relics are working but the tool tips are not working to show the percentage increase. I am not sure the approval relics are working at all.
