Explorer Left panel staying white (default color)

Hello, attached image shows the problem area in red, would greatly appreciate the help if anyone can show me how to color this portion of the explorer screen.

I have seen this same or similar problem in other posts (as well as Google results), but it was either inapplicable somehow or no answer was given.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, WindowBlinds 8, and the skin is DarkSide Two (I've modified it quite a bit, but this problem existed prior to that).

Last note, I've tried Background -> 'Explorer Backgrounds', couldn't find anything that made a difference.

Thanks again!

Jason

Man times when the Explorer window is open and you change a Windowblind you have to close it and open it again. All will be fine.

If you want to change the left side color. Open SKS -  Edit Explorer/IE Shell Parts. Look for "Folders bar". Click on "Extra Settings" Use the drop down menu and pick the color you want. Apply and save. AGAIN: If yo uhave the Explorer window open close and open it again for the changes to be seen.

NOTE: There is a graphic in the folders bar. Leave it there as it does nothing but it must be there.

Dave,

Really appreciate your help. I have been sure to open/close explorer, in fact I've been restarting after each change just to be safe.

Unfortunately the fix didn't take, below is the parts I tried:

I tried both of the color menus circled in red, although I assumed only the 'folder area' part applied.  The portion circled in blue changed from white to dark, but after applying and saving (and rebooting) the explorer navigation pane remains white, just as in my first photo above.

My only guess is that there is some effect in the 'DarkSide Two' skin that is overriding my changes.

Thanks again!

Jason

Look at the Control panel and navigation parts. Check out the Sidebar image.

Never mind what I said above. Same problem here as I just messed around with it. To tell you the truth this blind has many problems. Frames are bad and in the short time I looked several other things. Looks like a lot of downloads because it's Black. Lots of problems also. Would suggest you find another dark blind. Plenty of noce ones available.

The folders bar image must be a .bmp to work correctly, if it is a .png, regardless of its color, you will always get a white background.

Lightstar is correct but I assume you knew that because in your last image all you show is the White line.

You need to add a graphic to get rid of that.

Edit Explorer/IE Shell Parts/edit additional parts/additional explorer sections. - Right under that it will say "Left Hand Line" you need to add a graphic. You can use a 2 pixel x 26 pixel. Make it Black or whatever color you want to use. Below that image it will say "right hand line" you can also add the same image too that area.

I might add again. There are several images missing that should be in this akin also the frames are messed up. But if fixing this line works for you by all means enjoy the WB.

Thank you very much for your help Davebax and LightStar!

DarkSide Two was the only 'dark' skin I could find that would display the min/max/close buttons in FireFox, they mostly disappeared on EVERY other dark skin.

I created the 2px wide by 26px long bmp image and uploaded it as below:

http://s9.postimg.org/f6lx58f1b/menu2.png

That didn't work, so I tried the right hand line, that was still white. Finally, I used the same file for 'top area on libraries', and that DID work. (saving/applying/restarting explorer and usually rebooting at each step). So now it looks like:

http://s11.postimg.org/h53z8ykfn/phase2.png

Areas in red didn't work, but blue area did change. So I know the 2x26 bmp file works.

If you have any ideas I'd really appreciate it. Failing that, I'll assume it's a problem with DarkSide Two. I tried the skin "Ion" and one of the firefox buttons appears, and I bet I can apply what I've learned in SKS to make the other two appear. Or just use right click menu to minimize it. Either way, I think I've learned enough about WB and SKS to tweak a master skin to my liking. I assume 'master skins' are so called because they are done correctly. :)

Thanks again, haven't quite got it right but I am happy to learn the programs, for $10 they are really powerful and well written.

The preview area on the right cannot be changed, period. As for the tree area on the left, did you create a small, lets say 20 x 20 image in the color you want and is it a .bmp? Also, in the extra settings area for the folders image, did you set the color to be exactly the same as the color in the folders image? If so, it should work. If not, I have no idea what the problem could be unless I looked at the skin itself.

EDIT:  I just downloaded and peformed the above on Darkside Two in SKS and the problem was solved.

I did the same here Tom before my last post and it's fine. At least that part of it.

Jason if you didn't get it you must be missing a step. Read it all again and try one more time. If two of us old guys ( sorry Tom. lol ) make it work I know you can. You can do it.

LightStar -

Thanks again for your time. The image was a 2px (wide) by 26px (long) .bmp file, per Dave's suggestion above. I will try your suggestion, but I'm not quite getting this part:

" in the extra settings area for the folders image, did you set the color to be exactly the same as the color in the folders image?"

The only extra settings I see is the "image uses transparency, image has frames stacked vertically" etc.  I don't see any color options. Could you please specify the location of these settings?

Also, I'm doing this now just to learn SKS, I actually just replaced the skin with a master skin, which coincidentally was one of yours, Ember. It's nearly perfect for me, very nice work!

I may do a separate forum post on the FireFox buttons, in the Ember skin the very top of the buttons are visible so it works, but with the exception of DarkSide  every skin I've tried has either partially or completely obscured buttons on FireFox. weird.

Greatly appreciate the tutoring, and the work on Ember. I've been using it for about an hour and it's very nice!

On the upper right side of FF you will see an icon with 3 stacked lines. Click on that and choose customize (New tab opens). On the bottom left of the customize tab you'll see the titlebar button. Click on that.

Good job on that FF issue Tim. I sent him all the instructions and images he needs to fix the White and line problem. I think the only reason he is using that skin is because he can see some of the titlebar buttons.

Dave - Just went through the instructions, they are awesome, really appreciate it. The pics are great for SKS newbies like myself!

2of3 - You were right, with the title bar maximized the buttons show just fine. I'm not certain you could do a skin where they adjusted the same way FF's own buttons do when the the title bar is minimized, it would probably require a FF theme modification.

I really like the 'endeavor' skin, going to try it out now!

I sent you that information and what to change. Think it may work.
