Pinned Shortcuts Gone AWOL

I've been using Start8 for over a year and until recently had no complaints.
However, I now find that previously pinned shortcuts on the jump list for a Start menu item have disappeared.
It gets worse - the ability to pin a shortcut to a menu item has also disappeared.
Example.
I have pinned Microsoft Excel shortcut to the Start8 menu so it appears at the top of the menu when I click on the Start button.
If I subsequently open an existing document or create/save a new document, the ability to pin that document under the Excel shortcut doesn't exist.
This feature, common on Windows 7, used to work on Start8 when I first installed the app over a year ago, but for some time now, it has ceased to work.
Uninstalling then reinstalling the app achieves nothing.
