Weather docklet - Internet Not Available

Weather docklet - Internet Not Available

Since the internet is working just fine, and I've made no updates to ObjectDock in quite a while, any ideas why this stopped working today (January 27, 2015)?

It can't be because of the "historic" northeast US blizzard that didn't happen, could it?

Is the AccuWeather feed history, like changed and not able to be accessed via ObjectDock's hard coded URL in the Weather docklet?

The request being sent is:

http://weather29.sdcentral.net/weather2.asmx/weather_data_v2b_fallback?location=32259&metric=0&partner=ObjectDockPlus%20v2.00%20743&nocache=14773375

The reply is:

HTTP/1.1 302 Redirect

to the following URL:

https://www.stardock.accuweather.com/widget/stardock/weather_data_v2b.asp?location=32259&metric=0&partner=ObjectDockPlus%20v2.00%20743&nocache=14773375/weather_data_v2b_fallback

Which fails!

Please advise.

I am having the same EXACT issue as of today, 1/27/2015; the weather docklet seemed to fail between 9 AM and 10 AM this morning, and has been showing N/A, "Internet not available." It was working fine prior to that. Please assist.  I've even tried removing and adding back the weather docklet, to no avail.  Also re-installed Object Dock, and weather docklet is still not working. Have made no changes to my PC regarding software or hardware.

Same issue here.  Most likely the problem is at Stardock's end.

Jeff

I quit fooling around with that long ago. Basically I just put the URL on the desktop - in this case the Weather Channel - http://www.weather.com/  ,attach it to the dock create a custom Icon for it and I'm good to go. I don't go on to it everyday, I can just look out my window, but it never fails to connect. Hope you see this as a working alternative.

The thing is, it HAD been working perfectly from the start, at least for me.  Today is the first time it failed.  I have Win 8.1 with Start Screen tiles for MSN Weather and AccuWeather, so this is not critical for me either, but more of a "nice to have." Convenient having an icon directly on the dock showing current weather conditions.  Hopefully it will resolve soon.

Does your custom icon display the current temperature? That's info I can't get just by looking out the window.  |-)  I suppose I could get up and go outside to see if it's too hot, too cold or just right, but I kinda like to use the software on my computer to make my life easier, not harder.

I haven't had to "fool around" with the weather docklet since I went back to OD from WinStep -- it's worked great.  Very much a set-it-and-forget-it situation.  This current problem is an anomaly, and I expect that it will get fixed as soon as practicable.  I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any problem with the software in its current state; I think it's a server-side issue.

Cheers,

Jeff

Just tried it myself.  Maybe Accuweather changed how it's accessed?

I decided to add the Weather docklet to the bar, just to see if it was working. After setting the zip code, it came up showing 98* F, and the 5-day temps all being in the upper 80's. Problem is where I'm at it's really 48* F. Even after the Update it still show's 98* F.   I open up the website to AccuWeather and it shows the current correct temperature as 48* F. I guess I just don't care about the weather that much since I don't have to work outside.  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, by the way, so I don't think it's just Windows 8.1 . I do like the Weather Channels interactive maps far better than Accuweather. I just decided a long time ago to give hoping this app would work consistently and accurately. Hope you have better luck with it than I did.

Sysmetrix weather updates work ;)

I have the exact same problem.  The docklet is disabled on my "Quicklaunch" dock and says "N/A" above it.  I'm informed the network is unavailable, but it works fine.  I even went to "accuweather.com" and get their website.  So, I've removed it.

When I double-click, instead of getting accuweather I get the docklet's properties page.  From the url noted above, it looks like stardock has a subdomain with accuweather, but it won't ping now.

This must be a Stardock thing.

Same thing here.  Looks like a stardock problem.

Since I'm new to using it, is this a common problem?

gwt10 - apparently, this has happened before in previous releases. I think Startdock hard codes the call to the weather provider (accuweather) and if accuweather changes their setup, it breaks the feed to the app. Stardock will have to release a patch to fix the issue.

Can we get a request to Stardock to then please release a patch? Thanks.

Having same exact issue.

I submitted a ticket to tech support; will see what they say.  I could be wrong about the cause of the issue, just a guess based on what i've read online.

Same here, tried everything but still N/A.

@fooshniken:

Thanks for checking. The included weather docklet has worked consistently well and accurately for me for the last 2 years. I actually like Accuweather better than the Weather Channel.  I travel a lot, and finding a city with Accuweather (especially overseas) is significantly easier than with TWC.  I also like Accuweather's presentation better -- thank goodness we have choices, eh? :)

Cheers,

Jeff

Same problem here, since 1/27.  Getting the "Internet not available" message.  It is available, of course, and Accuweather.com is working fine, but not from this widget.  There are other simple ways to get weather as people have pointed out, but I do enjoy the 5 day fly out on mouseover this one provides.  Hope they fix it.

Also Ran .... Same issue here. I do recall this happening before, from 1.2 days, then 2.0 had a new docklet ad it has worked just fine for years.

Hoping they can fix.

Same here. I rely on docklet to keep me up to date on several locations. Please fix ASAP. Last time this happened they issued a new stardockweather.ocx.

Quoting mickeko, reply 76

Did you try this patch?

(From another thread)

Download this replacement stardockweather.ocx file:

http://sd.stardock.com/ken/stardockweather.ocx

and save it to your ObjectDock install folder (C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock). Open up ObjectDock and check the weather docklet. This may not work for everyone as it is a temporary workaround.

End of mickeko's quote

That doesn't work now Jim, too old. Both AccuWeather and The Weather Channel have changed things recently, so someone at Stardock will need to correct the URL that the docklet reaches out to at AccuWeather.

All working normally again here: 28 Jan 2015 10:40 am EST.

YAY! Same here! So, I guess this wasn't an issue on Stardock's side, but something with AccuWeather that they must have corrected on their end.

Working now for me too. HOWEVER, in my case the icons/graphics do not appear, only text. Advice please?
